GIVERS OF HEART

Mark 12:41-44

They all gave out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in everything–all she had to live on. (NIV)

            In today’s passage, our Lord gives us an important reason to give a little, even if that little is all that we can give. This commentary concerning the widow shows us that a pair of copper coins are of great value, even when nothing is added to them. In comparison to the givers near her, the widow and her offering didn’t seem like much.

            Instead, Jesus took advantage of that occasion to remind his disciples that the real value of an offering is not measured by the quantity, rather by the motive and the underlying sacrifice. Thus, a person who may have few possessions can, in reality, contribute more than someone who gives much through misaligned motives.

            Could it be that pride or feelings of inadequacy have impeded you from giving in Jesus’ name? Remember, a sacrificial offering is more valuable to God than great gifts that seek to impress and to call the attention of other givers. Your little means much to God.

 

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the possibility of contributing as givers. Put in our hearts the need to do it sacrificially. Amen.

OFRENDADORES DE CORAZON

Marcos 12:41-44

Porque todos han echado de lo que les sobra, pero esta, de su pobreza echó todo lo que tenía ¡todo su sustento!

            En el pasaje de hoy, nuestro Señor da una razón importante para dar un poco, si ese poco es todo lo que podemos dar. Su comentario acerca de la viuda nos muestra que un par de monedas de cobre son de gran valor, incluso cuando no se añade nada a ello. En comparación con los ofrendadores a su alrededor, la viuda y su ofrenda no parecían nada.

            En cambio, Jesús  aprovechó  aquella ocasión  para recordar a sus discípulos que el valor real de una ofrenda no se mide por la cantidad sino por el motivo y el sacrificio subyacentes. Así, una persona que tenga pocas posesiones puede en realidad contribuir más que alguien que da mucho, por motivos equivocados.

            ¿Pudiera ser que el orgullo o sentimiento de lo poco que puedes dar te ha impedido hacerlo en nombre de Jesús? Recuerda, una ofrenda sacrificial vale más para Dios que grandes dones que llaman la atención de los ofrendadores o que buscan impresionar a otros. Para Dios, tu poco significa mucho.

 

Oración: Gracias Señor, por la posibilidad de contribuir siendo ofrendadores. Pon en nuestros corazón la necesidad de hacerlo sacrificialmente. Amén.
