THE BLESSINGS OF GIRLS AND BOYS

Mark 10: 13-16

Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.

Mark 10:14b (NRSV)

From some previous texts the disciples have already been warned about the error of seeking to be first and of separating people from Jesus. On this occasion we see a scene where people take children to Jesus so that he can lay his hands on them. Although it has already been shown in other texts that Jesus’ touch brings healing, here it is related to the fact of imparting a blessing.

These children are probably of different ages from newborns to adolescents. The reality is that the disciples once again ignore the words of Jesus who had exhorted them to receive them as if they were receiving Him. Each of us in our homes had had the blessing of living together with such as these, listening to their laughter, sensing their innocence and simplicity, seeing how in playing and also in learning from those around them is part of the blessing we receive from them. Let yourself be embraced by their joy and don’t let anyone block you from this beautiful encounter.

Prayer: God of life, allow my heart to always be ready to receive each child that crosses my path. Amen.

LAS BENDICIONES DE LAS NIÑAS Y LOS NIÑOS

Marcos 10: 13-16

… dejad a los niños venir a mí, y no se lo impidáis; porque de tales es el reino de Dios…

Desde algunos textos anteriores los discípulos ya han sido advertidos acerca del error de buscar ser los primeros y de apartar a las personas de Jesús. En esta ocasión, se presenta una escena en la que gente trae niños a Jesús para que ponga sus manos sobre ellos. Aunque ya se ha mostrado en otros textos que el tocar de Jesús trae sanidad, aquí está relacionado con el hecho de impartir una bendición.

Estos niños y niñas es probable que tuvieran diferentes edades, desde un recién nacido hasta adolescentes;  lo cierto es que los discípulos hacen, una vez más, caso omiso de las palabras de Jesús que les había exhortado a recibirlos como si a Él mismo lo recibieran. Cada uno de nosotros en su hogar ha tenido la bendición de convivir con algunos de ellos, escuchar sus risas, sentir su inocencia y sencillez, ver cómo juegan y también cómo aprenden de quienes le rodean es parte de la bendición que recibimos de ellos. Déjese abrazar por su alegría y no permitas que nadie te limite a este hermoso encuentro.

Oración: Dios de la vida, permite que mi corazón esté siempre dispuesto a recibir a cada niño y niña que se cruce en mi camino. Amén.
