THE CHURCH OF OPEN ARMS

Luke 15, 1-3. 11-32

        “But we had to celebrate and be glad because this brother of yours was dead and is alive.”

When someone comes back to a place, a space that we have been a part of, there should always be a reason for joy for the one who arrives and the one who welcomes. If this space is the community of faith, the rejoicing should be doubled. There are situations in life that pull us apart from one another, we withdraw from the place we have shared part of our lives. Many times this distance has to do with bad decisions, including, on occasion, it is due to giving a low value to what we have or to where we are. However, all people should always have the opportunity to return to the place where they feel they belong.

Today there are many “prodigal sons and daughters” hoping and needing to return to their community of faith and the church should not put up obstacles, nor make value judgements, but better to throw a party for each sister and brother who once walked away but today feel that it is the place they want to be. We should be communities of open arms, arms in the same shape as God’s arms, the One who is always waiting for our return to his paths of justice and goodness.

Prayer: God, guide the road of return to your paths for each daughter and son of yours that has asked for the way. Amen.

IGLESIA DE BRAZOS ABIERTOS

Lucas 15, 1-3. 11-32

Pero ahora debemos hacer fiesta y alegrarnos, porque tu hermano, que estaba muerto, ha vuelto a vivir;

El regreso de alguien a un lugar, un espacio del que hemos sido parte, debe ser siempre un motivo de júbilo para quien llega y para quien da la bienvenida. Si ese espacio es la comunidad de fe, el regocijo debe ser doble. Hay situaciones en la vida que nos hace apartarnos, alejamos de donde hemos compartido parte de nuestras vidas, muchas veces esta lejanía tiene que ver con malas decisiones, incluso, en ocasiones, se debe a la poca valoración que le damos a lo que tenemos, o a donde estamos. Sin embargo, todas las personas deben tener la oportunidad siempre de poder regresar al lugar donde sienten que pertenecen.

Hoy existen muchas “hijos pródigos” deseando, necesitando regresar a sus comunidades de fe y la iglesia no debe poner trabas, ni hacer juicios de valores, sino más bien, hacer fiesta por cada hermana y hermano que alguna vez se alejó, pero que hoy siente que es el lugar donde quiere estar. Debemos ser comunidades de brazos abiertos, de la misma forma que Dios, siempre espera nuestra vuelta a sus caminos de justicia y bien.

Oración: Dios guía el camino de regreso a tus caminos a cada hija e hijo tuyo que ha pedido el rumbo. Amen.
