DECIDE

Romans 14:1-13

…make up your mind  not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

Faith and conviction do not mean the same thing. In the first century, religious traditions based on the law were so important to the religious leaders that they failed to recognize the one who embodied the law: Jesus. They were so focused on minor matters based on the written letter that they neglected the more important ones.

The Scriptures say that we need to subjugate even our beliefs and convictions to the law of love (o 13:8,10; Gal 5:14; James 2:8), for love fulfills the law and leads to peace and mutual edification.

When choices and preferences become more important to us than what God says is valuable to Him, it means that we have made idols of our own beliefs. Idolatry is a serious offense because it violates the first and most important commandment: You shall have no other gods before me. (Ex 20:3)

Let us decide not to elevate our own opinions above those of God, lest they become a stumbling block and prevent others from knowing the love of Jesus.

 

Prayer: Lord, let the first thing in our lives be to love as you teach us. Amen.

Decidid no poner tropiezo u ocasión de caer al hermano

Romanos 14:13

La fe y la convicción no significan lo mismo. En el primer siglo, las tradiciones religiosas basadas en la ley eran tan importantes para los líderes religiosos que éstos no lograron reconocer a aquel que personificaba la ley: Jesús. Estaban tan centrados en asuntos de menor cuantía en base a la letra escrita que descuidaron los más importantes.

Las Escrituras dicen que necesitamos subyugar incluso nuestras creencias y convicciones a la ley del amor (o 13:8,10; Gá 5:14; Stgo 2:8), por cuanto el amor cumple la ley y lleva a la paz y la edificación mutua.

Cuando las opciones y las preferencias se vuelven más importantes para nosotros que lo que Dios dice que es valioso para Él, significa que hemos hecho ídolos de nuestras propias creencias. La idolatría es una ofensa grave porque viola el primer y más importante mandamiento: No tendrás dioses ajenos delante de mí (Éx 20:3).

Decidamos no elevar nuestras propias opiniones por encima de las de Dios, no vaya a ser que se conviertan en una piedra de tropiezo e impidan que los demás conozcan el amor de Jesús.

 

Oración: Permite Señor que lo primero en nuestra vida sea amar como tú nos enseñas. Amén.
