RENEWED IN CHRIST

Mark 8:34

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

Jesus taught his disciples that it was necessary for him to suffer much: rejection, a violent death and finally resurrection.

Peter began to rebuke Jesus. His imprudence amazes us: but haven’t there been occasions where we have questioned God’s work and suggested another solution that seems more to our way of thinking?

We do not have the right to criticize Peter. We are tempted to think we do; this having been the temptation that Jesus had and conquered in the desert and that he would conquer again in Gethsemane. Jesus did not give into it, nor should we as his followers give in to it either. Jesus, who was usually gentle and patient with his disciples, on this occasion was severe. To deny oneself means to refuse to follow some natural inclination, however innocent it may be, that is contrary to the path that Christ has laid out for us. However, there is a great promise attached to these words: those who go on this path will see realized, even in this life, the power of the Kingdom of God.

 

Prayer: Lord, show me the path that I must follow and give me sufficient courage to follow you. Amen.

NUEVOS  EN CRISTO

Marcos 8:34

Y si el Espíritu de aquel que resucitó a Jesús vive en ustedes, el mismo que resucitó a Cristo dará nueva vida a sus cuerpos mortales por medio del Espíritu de Dios que vive en ustedes.

Jesús enseñó a sus discípulos que era necesario que padeciese mucho: el rechazo, una muerte violenta y  al final resurrección.

Pedro comenzó a reprender a Jesús. Nos pasma su imprudencia; pero ¿acaso no ha habido ocasiones cuando nosotros hemos puesto en duda la obra de Dios y le hemos sugerido otra solución que se asemeja más a nuestra manera de pensar?

No tenemos derecho a criticar a Pedro. Somos tentados a pensar así, esta había sido la tentación que Jesús tuvo y conquistó en el desierto y que volvería a conquistar en Getsemaní. Jesús no cedería a ella ni tampoco nosotros como sus seguidores debemos ceder. Jesús, quien por lo general era suave y paciente con sus discípulos, en esta ocasión fue severo. El negarse a sí mismo significa rehusar seguir alguna inclinación natural, por más inocente que sea, que es contraria a la senda que Cristo ha trazado para nosotros. Sin embargo, hay una gran promesa ligada a estas palabras: aquellos que transitan por esta senda verán realizado, aun en esta vida, el poder del Reino de Dios.

 

Oración: Señor muéstrame la senda que he de transitar y dame el valor suficiente para seguirte. Amén.
