WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?

Matthew 16: 13-17

“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

There are many ideas and images about Jesus, and each one of these representations leads to ways of behaving, of living the faith. As at that time, if we were to ask who people say Jesus is, we would receive different replies: for some he is the King who comes filled with riches to enhance his own, for others; he is the castigator who will bring down his enemies; others see him as a brother, the friend who walks at our side, the guide and inspiration for our lives.

What is certain is that we ought, like Peter, to know for certain which is the Jesus that we are following, for this will lead us to live more faithfully in coherence with his ethical purposes. Peter’s Jesus, the Son of the living God is the one who healed, restored, taught, and showed his love to people with concrete acts. It is the same Jesus that today, despite the false images that we want to impose on him, continues to love us with a love that is difficult to explain. Are we following the Christ of Peter, the Son of the living God truly?

 

Prayer: Jesus, let my life be a worthy witness of your presence. Amen.

¿Quién es Jesús para ti?

¿Quién dicen los hombres que es el Hijo del Hombre?

Hay muchas ideas, imágenes alrededor de Jesús, y cada una de estas representaciones conducen a maneras de comportarse, de vivir la fe. Como en aquel tiempo, si hiciéramos la pregunta de quién dice la gente que es Jesús, tendríamos disimiles respuestas: para algunos es el Rey que viene lleno de riquezas a enriquecer a los suyos, para otros es el castigador que acabará con nuestros enemigos, otros lo ven como el hermano, el amigo que camina a nuestro lado, el guía y la inspiración de nuestras vidas.

Lo cierto es que debemos, como Pedro, saber ciertamente cuál es el Jesús que seguimos, pues eso nos llevará a vivir la fe más en coherencia con su propuesta ética. El Jesús de Pedro, el Hijo del Dios viviente, es él que sanaba, restauraba, educaba, mostraba a su amor a los seres humanos, con hechos concretos. Es el mismo Jesús, que hoy, a pesar de las falsas imágenes que nos quieren imponer, sigue amándonos con un amor difícil de explicar. ¿Seguimos al Cristo de Pedro, al Hijo del Dios viviente, al verdadero?

 

Oración: Permite, Jesús, que mi vida sea un digno testimonio de tu presencia, amén.
