THE DURABILITY OF GOD’S WORD

1 Peter 1:25

but the word of the Lord endures forever.

Peter develops the logical consequences of baptism, and makes an appeal, reminding us that we cannot turn back and give in to the vices of the world, for that would mean going back to the slavery from which Christ has freed us, making us reborn again.

Truly Jesus’ message receives different responses depending on the receptivity of the hearer. The truth is that in hearing it, understanding it, and beginning to follow it we develop a genuine love for others, that is triggered by the act of this new birth.

When the Gospel is preached it waters a seed that is not only the transmission of information but also a true transformation for those who receive it: “You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.”

 

Prayer: Lord, may the whole Church be obedient to your Truth and may the Holy Spirit purify hearts to reach fraternal love, unfeigned, loving us all dearly. May we learn to be better human beings every day. Amen.

PERDURABILIDAD DE LA PALABRA DE DIOS

1 Pedro 1:25

Mas la Palabra del Señor permanecerá para siempre.

Pedro desarrolla las consecuencias lógicas del bautismo, y hace un llamado, recordándoles que no podemos volver atrás y ceder a los vicios del mundo, pues ello significaría dar una vuelta a la esclavitud de la que Cristo nos ha librado, haciéndonos renacer de nuevo.

Si bien el mensaje de Jesús recibe respuestas diferentes, en dependencia de la receptividad del oyente, lo cierto en que al escucharla, comprenderla y comenzar a seguirla desarrolla un genuino amor por otros, que es provocado por el hecho de ese nuevo nacimiento.

Cuando se predica el Evangelio es regar una semilla que no es solamente transmisión de información, sino una verdadera transformación para aquellos que la reciben. Pedro les recuerda que ellos «han vuelto a nacer, y esta vez no de padres humanos y mortales, sino de la palabra de Dios, la cual vive y permanece para siempre».

 

Oración: Señor, que toda la Iglesia sea obediente a tu Verdad y que el Espíritu Santo purifique los corazones para llegar al amor fraternal, no fingido, amándonos todos entrañablemente. Que aprendamos a ser cada día mejores seres humanos.
