IT’S ALWAYS THE SAME

Mark 9: 2-10

Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!”

This is a passage full of symbols. We must approach it with caution to see what is happening in it, what the community of this moment is telling us.

Jesus meets with three of his disciples on a mountain. It’s an important moment. He appears glorified, letting the divine be seen and heard. The cloud brings water, brings shade, brings life. Above all, in the time of the desert, of change, transformation is always present as a sign that God is with them and talks to them. God is there. It shows that what they discovered about Jesus after his death and Resurrection was there during his life.

The divinity of Jesus is not something added, it is not a crucial moment; the divinity in Jesus is his humanity.

At times, like those disciples, we want to stay on the mountain, in the glory, in the secure place, when following Jesus means letting ourselves be transformed and collaborating with others for this.

 

Prayer: Lord, let us see you as you are so that we may strip ourselves of prejudices, of anchored glories, and see your humanity present in the world.

Siempre es el mismo

Marcos 9: 2-10

Entonces vino una nube que les hizo sombra, y desde la nube una voz que decía: «Este es mi Hijo amado; a él oíd».

Este es un pasaje lleno de símbolos, debemos a acercarnos con cautela para ver lo que en el sucede, lo que nos está relatando esta comunidad de este momento.

Jesús se encuentra con tres de los discípulos en un monte. Es un momento importante. Se muestra glorificado, dejando ver y escuchar lo divino. La nube trae agua, trae sombra, trae vida. Sobre todo, en el tiempo del desierto, de cambio, transformación está siempre presente como signo de que Dios les acompaña, les habla. Dios está ahí. Muestra que lo que descubrieron de Jesús después de su muerte y Resurrección ya estaba en él durante su vida.

Lo divino de Jesús, no es algo añadido, no es un momento crucial, lo divino en Jesús esta su humanidad.

Como estos discípulos, a veces nos queremos quedar en el monte, en la gloria, en el lugar seguro, cuando seguir a Jesús significa dejar ser transformados, y colaborar a los demás para esto.

 

Oración: Señor, déjanos verte tal como eres, que podamos despojarnos de los prejuicios, de las glorias ancladas, y ver tu humanidad presente en el mundo. Amén.
