IT CANNOT BE BY HALVES

Ephesians 4: 30–5, 2

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. (NIV)

Ephesians 4:31

Banish is a verb that contains imperatives. It means to remove, to completely uproot something that has lived until that moment in a certain place, and not for a specific period of time, but rather loses all possibility of return, because in that place it is no longer welcome.

To face the challenge of that new life that Jesus proposes to us, to build community, to be that church that proclaims the values   of the Kingdom, we must banish everything that prevents us from fully loving our neighbors.

Although it is sometimes difficult to prevent anger and harshness, especially when we think we are right, it is crucial to return to this text that invites us to seek compassion and forgiveness so that goodness may dwell in each and every one.       

It cannot be half-hearted; it is not about minimizing these bad feelings in the church, and then allowing them to return at work or at home. It is from our hearts, from our spirit that we must remove the ties of self, to look and see ourselves clearly as part of a great family of faith. Let us tell selfishness that it is not welcome in our lives.

 

Prayer: Gracious God, make every space in my life a place that bears witness to your love and forgiveness.  Amen.

No puede ser a medias

Efesios 4: 30–5, 2

Destierren de ustedes la aspereza, la ira, la indignación, los insultos, la maledicencia y toda clase de maldad.

Efesios 4:31

Desterrar es un verbo que contiene imperativos. Significa sacar, arrancar completamente algo que habitó hasta ese momento en un lugar determinado, y no por un período de tiempo específico, sino que pierde toda posibilidad de regreso, porque en ese lugar, ya no es bienvenido.

Para enfrentar el reto de esa vida nueva que Jesús nos propone, para construir comunidad, para ser esa iglesia que proclama los valores del Reino, debemos desterrar todo aquello que nos impide amar plenamente a nuestro prójimo.

Aunque sea difícil a veces impedir el enojo, la ira, las asperezas, especialmente cuando pensamos que tenemos la razón, es determinante regresar a este texto que invita a buscar la compasión y el perdón para que en cada uno y cada una habite la bondad.

No puede ser a medias, no se trata de minimizar en la iglesia estos malos sentimientos, y luego en el trabajo o la casa permitir que regresen. Es de nuestros corazones, desde nuestro espíritu de donde debemos sacar las ataduras del yo, para mirar, y mirarnos claramente como parte de una gran familia de fe. Digamos al egoísmo que no es bienvenido en nuestra vida.

 

Oración: Dios bueno, haz de todos los espacios de mi vida, un lugar que de testimonio de tu amor y tu perdón.
