Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?…

The Pharisees, who had managed to classify some six hundred laws, often tried to distinguish between the most important and the least important. So one of them, a “law expert,” asked Jesus to identify the most important law. Jesus’ answer gave them a victory, but they were more interested in killing Jesus than in learning a truth.

Jesus says that if we love God and our neighbor, we naturally keep the commandments. By keeping these two commandments, a person fulfilled the others, since they summarize the Ten Commandments and the other moral laws of the Old Testament  .

This is looking at God’s law in a positive way. Instead of worrying about what we cannot do, we should concentrate on what we can do to show that we love God and others.

 

Prayer: Loving Father, enable us to obey your commandments, teach us to be worthy sons and daughters. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

AMA A DIOS Y AL PROJIMO

Maestro, ¿cuál es el mandamiento más importante de la ley?

Los fariseos, que habían logrado clasificar unas seiscientas leyes, con frecuencia trataban de distinguir entre lo más importante y lo menos importante. De modo que uno de ellos "experto en leyes" le pidió a Jesús que identificara la ley más importante. La respuesta de Jesús les daba una victoria, pero estaban más interesados en acabar con Jesús que en aprender una verdad.

Jesús dice que si amamos a Dios y a nuestro prójimo, por naturaleza guardamos los mandamientos. Al cumplir estos dos mandamientos, una persona cumplía las restantes, ya que resumen los Diez Mandamientos y las otras leyes morales del Antiguo Testamento.

Esto es mirar la ley de Dios de manera positiva. En vez de estar preocupándonos de lo que no podemos hacer, debiéramos concentrarnos en aquello que sí podemos hacer para mostrar que amamos a Dios y a los demás.

 

Oración: Padre amado, permite que podamos obedecer tus mandamientos, enséñanos a ser dignos hijos e hijas tuyos. En el nombre de Jesucristo, amén.
