I sing peace
for those who are silent
because they
feel your absence and delay,
those who
suffer, impatient,
those who
are mute, hope has gone away.
I ask for
peace, which many do not find
if their tables
lack sustenance,
if their bodies
have forgotten hugs,
if silences
fill their homes.
I speak
peace, and it announces the song
of a child,
Word, flesh, and God eternal,
who lights
with tenderness the snuffed candle,
that gives
light and shelter for all the winter.
I speak
peace, carols, and mystery,
to convert
this night into a Holy Night.
I pray
peace, I look at the world and promise
to sing
peace for those who cannot.

Canto paz por quienes enmudecen
porque sienten su ausencia y su tardanza,
los que sufren, perdida la paciencia,
quienes callan, cautiva la esperanza.
Pido paz, que muchos no la alcanzan
si falta de sus mesas el sustento,
si olvidaron sus cuerpos los abrazos,
si pueblan sus hogares los silencios.
Digo paz, y anunciarla ya es canto
de niño, Verbo, carne y Dios eterno,
que incendia con ternuras lo apagado,
que da lumbre y abrigo a tanto invierno.
Hablo paz, villancico y misterio,
que convierte una noche en Noche Santa.
Rezo paz, miro al mundo y prometo
cantar la paz para quien no la canta
