COURAGEOUS LOVE

John 15:18-21

If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you.

John 15.18 (NRSV)

Jesus had spoken to them much about His love for them and their love for Him and how that love is expressed. In contrast, he now describes the hatred that the “world” holds for Him, and how they would suffer the same hostility and persecution. The Master comforts and prepares them with the fact that these “systems” condemned Him first. The love of these systems is selfish and self-interested; they love their own, that is, those of their own character and conduct. That is why Jesus warns them that identification with his ministry would have unexpected and inevitable consequences because of this declared hostility between the “world” (economic and moral system) around them, and the purpose of the common good, of the justice of the Kingdom of God.

Sincere and genuine love in the service of those around us shows the difference in the way which Jesus demonstrates for us.

 

Prayer: God of love, we want to be examples of your valient and just love for everyone, demonstrating that truth in confrontation with the hatred we confront on every side. Amen.

AMOR VALIENTE

Juan 15:18-21

Si el mundo los aborrece, tengan presente que antes que a ustedes me aborreció a mí

Juan 15.18

Jesús les había hablado mucho acerca de su amor para con ellos y el de ellos hacia Él y cómo se expresa ese amor. En contraste ahora describe el odio que el “mundo” tiene para con Él, y que sufrirían la misma hostilidad y persecución. El Maestro los consuela y prepara con el hecho de que estos “sistemas” le condenaron a Él primero. El amor de estos sistemas es egoísta e interesado, aman lo suyo, es decir, a los de su propio carácter y conducta. Por eso Jesús les alerta que la identificación con su ministerio tendría consecuencias inesperadas e inevitables por causa de esa hostilidad declarada entre el “mundo”(sistema económico y moral) a su alrededor, y la propuesta de bien común, de justicia del Reino de Dios.

El amor sincero y genuino en el servicio a los demás muestra la diferencia en el camino que Jesús nos mostró.

 

Oración: Dios de amor, queremos ser ejemplos de tu amor valiente y justo para con todas y todos, mostrar esa verdad, frente al desamor que encontramos a nuestro alrededor. Amén.
