THE HIDDEN TREASURE

Matthew 13:44

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

Matthew 13:44 (NIV)

Jesus does not mean that we should divest ourselves of our possessions. His words can have many meanings, which could be: to dedicate ourselves a little bit more to serving others; to divest ourselves a little more of selfishness, vanity, hatred; to be generous with those around us; to discard ambition; and others. But in the first place, he tells us to put our life purposes, our goals, in God’s hands, with the objective of fulfilling his purposes, never our own.

God makes himself present through Jesus, considered at that time the Master, who teaches us and explains to us that the searched for Kingdom of God becomes a reality on earth when we do the will of Him, our Father. He tells us that it will be a smooth road, free of problems and difficulties.

 

Prayer: Lord, give us the wisdom to follow you, that we may be ready to serve and be humble in our daily actions, so that we may lay up treasures in heaven. Amen.

EL TESORO ESCONDIDO

Mateo 13:44

El Reino de Dios es como un tesoro escondido en un terreno. Un hombre encuentra el tesoro, y lo vuelve a esconder allí mismo; lleno de alegría va y vende lo que tiene, y compra ese terreno.

Jesús no quiere decir que nos despojemos de nuestras pertenencias. Sus palabras pueden tener muchos significados, que podrían ser: dedicarnos un poco más a servir a los demás; despojarnos un poco del egoísmo, la vanidad, el odio; ser generosos con quienes nos rodean; desechar la ambición; y otras; pero, en primer lugar, nos dice que pongamos nuestros propósitos de vida, nuestras metas, en manos de Dios, con el objetivo de cumplir sus propósitos, nunca los nuestros.

Dios se hace presente por medio de Jesús, considerado en aquel momento El Maestro, el que nos enseña y explica que ese buscado Reino de Dios se hace realidad en la tierra cuando hacemos la voluntad de Él, nuestro Padre. Nos dice cómo llegar a Él, aunque no nos asegura que ese sea un camino llano, exento de problemas y dificultades.

 

Oración: Señor, danos la sabiduría para seguirte, que estemos dispuestos a servir y ser humildes en nuestras acciones cotidianas, para poder acumular así tesoros en el cielo. Amén.

DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?

John 11: 1-46

I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.

John 11:25 (NIV)

Jesus’ love for his friend Lazarus was evident when his spirit was moved, and he wept because his friend was dead.

In ancient times, it was believed that the gods were not capable of suffering and that they were not interested in human suffering. Our God is suffering, loving and merciful.

When Martha saw the Lord, she reproached him for not being there to heal her brother, but at the same time she was certain that only He could ask God for a miracle like resurrection.

In my life there are many occasions in which I have felt dead, but I remember this great event of Jesus and I regain strength. All around us many people are dead in life, and they need to be resurrected. Jesus has the authority to lift our souls and bring them to abundant life. And you: do you believe this?

 

Prayer: God of life, we thank you for the resurrection, because you rescue us from death, from stress, from depression, from torment to give us the hope that does not shame. We ask you for those alive in body, but dead spiritually, that you resurrect them as you did with Lazarus, because yes, we believe that you can do it. Amen.

¿CREES ESTO?

Juan 11: 1-46

Yo soy la resurrección y la vida; el que cree en mí, aunque este muerto, vivirá.

Juan 11:25

El amor de Jesús por su amigo Lázaro era evidente cuando su espíritu se conmovió y lloró porque su amigo estaba muerto.

En la antigüedad se creía que los dioses no eran capaces de sufrir y que no les interesaba el padecimiento humano. Nuestro Dios es sufriente, amoroso y misericordioso.

Cuando Marta vio al Señor le recriminó por no estar para sanar a su hermano, pero al mismo tiempo tuvo la seguridad de que solo Él podía pedirle a Dios un milagro como la resurrección.

En mi vida son muchas las ocasiones en las que me he sentido muerto, pero recuerdo este gran suceso de Jesús y recobro fuerzas. A nuestro alrededor muchas personas están muertas en vidas, necesitan ser resucitadas, Jesús tiene autoridad para levantar nuestras almas y llevarlas a la vida abundante. Y tú: ¿Crees esto?

 

Oración: Dios de vida, te agradecemos por la resurrección, porque nos rescatas de la muerte, del estrés, la depresión, del tormento para darnos la esperanza que no avergüenza. Te pedimos por aquellos vivos en cuerpo, pero muertos espiritualmente, para que les resucites como hiciste con Lázaro, porque sí creemos que puedes hacerlo. Amén.

Monday, July 29th

PAIN IS NO CAUSE FOR JOY

John 16:2-22

Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

John 16:20 (NIV)

From trials we can emerge defeated or victorious, we can either face trials with wisdom, hoping in the fulfillment of the promise, or lose faith.

Sadly, many rejoice in suffering, but when we are aware that our life is in the right hands, then we know that the cross is the first step towards resurrection.

Jesus will turn sadness into joy, a joy that is the joy that never ceases in the hearts of those of us who put our trust in the God that can do all things. That joy that Christ promises us cannot be taken away, it will be complete happiness.

Embrace Christ and in the midst of your tribulation you will find peace and joy. Trust and you will not be put to shame and, above all, never rejoice in the pain that others suffer.

 

Prayer: Your grace, Lord, is manifested in the midst of weeping and lamentation in order to turn it into joy. Give us the faith necessary to believe and never to rejoice in the misfortunes of our neighbor. For Jesus, Amen.

EL DOLOR NO ES MOTIVO DE ALEGRÍA

Juan 16:2-22

De cierto, de cierto os digo, que vosotros lloraréis y lamentaréis, y el mundo se alegrará; pero, aunque vosotros estéis tristes, vuestra tristeza se convertirá en gozo.

Juan 16:20

De las pruebas podemos salir derrotados o victoriosos, podemos enfrentar las pruebas con sabiduría, esperando en el cumplimiento de la promesa o perdiendo la fe.

Tristemente muchos se alegran de los sufrimientos, pero cuando somos conscientes que nuestra vida está en las manos correctas, entonces sabemos que la cruz es el primer paso para la resurrección.

Jesús convertirá la tristeza en gozo, el gozo es la alegría que nunca cesa en el corazón de los que ponemos nuestra confianza en el Dios que todo lo puede. Ese gozo que Cristo nos promete no puede ser arrebatado, será una felicidad completa.

Abraza a Cristo y en medio de tu tribulación encontrarás paz y alegría. Confía y no quedarás en vergüenza y, sobre todo, nunca te alegres del dolor que sufren otros.

 

Oración: Tu gracia, Señor, se manifiesta en medio del llanto y el lamento para convertirlo en gozo. Danos la fe necesaria para creer y nunca alegrarnos de las desgracias de nuestro prójimo. Por Jesús, amén.
