I WILL PLANT THE PRECIOUS SEED

Matthew 13: 1-9

I have put my words in your mouth.

Jeremiah 1:9b (NIV)

Jesus speaks to the multitude that follows him, and in this introductory parable he presents a sower in his work, who plants the seed in the field, scattering it wide, and it falls in different parts of the field so that the results are shown to be very different. This is the image he uses to illustrate the reason for the divisions among those who heard his teachings about the Kingdom of God.

This parable, with its four “scenes.” indicates that the response not only depends on the message, but also on the readiness of the listeners to receive it. There are those who simply do not wish to listen, and those whose response is so superficial that when faced with various difficulties along the way it is extinguished, and those who are concerned with other interests that stifle their response. All three are situations that are perceived when preaching the Gospel, then and now.

But there is also a fertile soil, where ears of corn will take hold and grow, bear fruit and keep the message alive about the Kingdom of God.

Jesus calls us to spread the “seed of LOVE” with confidence and enthusiasm because the harvest will be great.

 

Prayer: Lord, let us not only be hearers, but also doers of your Word. Amen.

SEMBRARÉ LA SIMIENTE PRECIOSA

Mateo 13: 1-9

Jeremías 1: 9b

Jesús habla a la multitud que lo sigue, y en esta parábola introductoria presenta a un sembrador en su faena, que esparce la simiente en el campo, a voleo, y que caen en diferentes partes del terreno por lo que los resultados se muestran bien diferentes. Esta es la imagen que utiliza para ilustrar el porqué de las divisiones entre los que oyeron sus enseñanzas acerca del Reino de Dios.

Esta parábola, con sus cuatro “escenas”, indica que la respuesta no sólo depende del mensaje, sino también de una buena disposición de los oyentes para recibirla. Están aquellos que simplemente no quieren escuchar, o los que su respuesta encendida es tan superficial que al afrontar diversas dificultades en su camino se apaga, y la de aquellos que están preocupados con otros intereses que ahogan su respuesta. Las tres son situaciones que se perciben al predicar el Evangelio, en aquel entonces y ahora.

Pero también hay una tierra fértil, donde crecerán espigas que se aferrarán, que darán frutos y mantendrán vivo el mensaje del Reino de Dios.

Jesús nos llama a esparcir la “simiente de AMOR” con confianza y entusiasmo porque la cosecha será grandiosa.

 

Oración: Señor, permite que no solo seamos oidores, sino también hacedores de tu Palabra. Amén.
