THE HOPE THAT HOPES

Amos 7: 12-15

But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, “Go, prophesy to my people Israel.” (NIV)

Amos 7:15

Understanding that the Christian faith is essentially prophetic, this then implies understanding that, in our journey of life based on faith in the Lord, we cannot stop naming him, and speaking in the name of God is maintaining hope. But not as a call to wait from a state of naive and alienating accommodation, but to conceive hope like the prophet, from humility, from courage and without any other pretension than to share it and recreate it together with all his sons and daughters, signifying it as the educator Paulo Freire:

“It is necessary to have hope, but to have hope from the verb to hope. [...] Hope is to get up, hope is to pursue something, hope is to build, hope is not to give up!”

On this day let us make a commitment to hope, with our words and actions we fill the spaces and lives lacking hope. Let us fill life with colors, opportunities and ways to make it full; let us hope with our hope for those around us.

 

Prayer: Lord, fill our lives with your presence, so that we can witness to your hope. Amen.

La esperanza que esperanza

Amós 7, 12-15

Pero el Señor me quitó de andar cuidando ovejas y me dijo: «Ve y habla en mi nombre a mi pueblo Israel».

Amós 7:15

Entender que la fe cristiana es esencialmente profética, implica comprender entonces que, en nuestro camino de vida desde la fe en el Señor, no podemos dejar de nombrarle, y hablar en nombre de Dios es mantener la esperanza, mas no como llamado a esperar desde un estado de acomodo ingenuo y enajenante. Sino concebir la esperanza como el profeta, desde la humildad, desde la valentía y sin más pretensión que no sea la de compartirla y recrearla junto con todos sus hijos y sus hijas; resignificándola como el educador Paulo Freire:

«Es preciso tener esperanza, pero tener esperanza del verbo esperanzar; (...) ¡Esperanzar es levantarse, esperanzar es perseguir algo, esperanzar es construir, esperanzar es no desistir!»

En este día hagamos un compromiso con la esperanza, con nuestras palabras y acciones llenemos los espacios y vidas carentes de esperanza. Llenemos la vida de colores, de oportunidades y de maneras para hacerla plena, esperancemos con nuestra esperanza a quienes están a nuestro alrededor.

 

Oración: Señor, llena nuestra vida con tu presencia para que podamos testimoniar de tu esperanza. Amén.
