PEACE IN THE TEMPEST

Matthew 8: 23-27

And they went and woke him up, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

Weather events are becoming more and more frequent across our planet. People rightly fear inclement weather, from massive snowfalls to out-of-range hurricanes.

In Jesus’ time there were fears of these winds, as in this case the disciples were terrorized; almost all of them had been fishermen and knew the consequences of a rapid and violent tempest on the lake. The Master apparently sleeeps and, terrified, they call out to him.

When that scene arises in our lives, when in the midst of fear we think, “Does the Master not see our peril? Where is our God?”

Then Christ says to us, “Why do you fear, people of little faith?” God appears to be sleeping because we don’t sense him. He is not the one who fails, but we who shut our eyes and ears to his presence. He is always there, he is our rock. Therefore, even if there are storms of any kind, trusting in Him we can find prosperity and peace.

 

Prayer: Holy One, you are our refuge, our peace. Thank you, Lord; we trust in you every day, Amen.

PAZ EN LA TORMENTA

Mateo 8: 23-27

Y vinieron sus discípulos, diciendo: «Señor, sálvanos que perecemos».

Los eventos meteorológicos son cada vez más frecuentes en todo nuestro planeta, las personas temen y con razón a las inclemencias del tiempo, desde nevadas enormes hasta huracanes fuera de rango.

En tiempos de Jesús, eran temidos estos vientos, que como en este caso atemorizaba a los discípulos; casi todos habían sido pescadores y conocían las consecuencias de una tormenta en el lago, rápida y violenta. El Maestro al parecer duerme y ellos temerosos lo llaman.

¡Cuánto se parece esa escena a las nuestras, cuando en medio del temor pensamos: «¿El Señor no ve nuestro peligro? ¿Dónde está nuestro Dios?»

Entonces Cristo nos dice: «¿por qué temen, hombre y mujeres de poca fe?» Parece que duerme Dios, porque no lo sentimos, y no es Él quien falta, sino nosotros que cerramos ojos y oídos a su presencia. Él está ahí siempre, es nuestra roca; por eso, aunque haya tormentas de cualquier tipo, confiados en Él podremos encontrar bonanza y paz.

 

Oración: Dios Santo, tú eres nuestro refugio, nuestra paz. Gracias, Señor, en ti confiamos cada día. Amén.
