THE PEACE JESUS BRINGS

Matthew 10: 34-11:1

Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. (NIV)

Jesus’ words contain powerful messages about the gospel and fundamental teachings for his disciples about the true meaning of walking alongside the teacher.

The instructions that he gives in the text about the meaning of peace, even though they could leave us with a certain taste of confusion, due to the rigor of the words that Jesus uses, have this intention.

More than twenty times we find the word peace in the gospels as a gift from the Prince of Peace for our lives, but it is not the peace that the world offers, that which results from the victory of those who believe themselves to be stronger, nor is it the peace of the awkward silences, the less superficial conversations.

The peace that Jesus teaches us implies entering into difficult and deep dialogues, in which love, empathy, forgiveness mediate, but also where we start from the truth and the search for justice, where we seek to build a peace that  reaches out to every brother and sister.

 

Prayer: Gracious God, allow us to live and share your peace. Amen.

La paz que trae Jesús

Mateo 10: 34-11:1

No penséis que he venido para traer paz a la tierra; no he venido para traer paz, sino espada.

Las palabras de Jesús contienen mensajes contundentes sobre el evangelio y enseñanzas fundamentales para sus discípulas y discípulos sobre el verdadero significado de caminar junto al maestro.

Las instrucciones que da en el texto sobre el significado de la paz, aun cuando pudieran dejarnos cierto sabor de desconcierto, por el rigor de las palabras que Jesús utiliza, tienen esta intención.

Más de veinte veces encontramos la palabra paz en los evangelios como regalo del Príncipe de Paz para nuestras vidas, pero no es la paz que ofrece el mundo, aquella que resulta de la victoria de quien se cree más fuerte, tampoco es la paz de los silencios incómodos, menos de las conversaciones superficiales.

La paz que nos enseña Jesús, eirene implica entrar en diálogos difíciles y profundos en los que medie el amor, la empatía, el perdón, pero también donde se parta de la verdad y de la búsqueda de la justicia, donde busquemos construir una paz que sea útil y alance a cada hermano, hermana.
