LOVE, THE LAW OF GOD

Luke 11: 37-41

The laws of each society or people are instruments to establish justice. However, on many occasions, the laws distort their true meaning.

For the people of God, the law synthesized his Word, sealed the covenant of love with the Lord; its essence being loyalty and love for God, which in the New Testament is the living word of Jesus.

What reasons does Jesus find to break the law, as shown in the passage? For the Master, the law is love and every command loses meaning when it is not contemplated. That is why, for those of us who follow him, faith in Christ and love constitute an indivisible formula. Faith in Jesus leads to love that is translated into life practice, in concrete gestures, free of recipes that govern the way it takes shape.

If every action has love behind it, we will never be outside of God’s law. Therefore, a question can accompany us in this time of devotion: How can I love better and more?

Prayer: Lord, show us how to make your love prevail as a universal law. Amen.

LA LEY DE DIOS: EL AMOR

Lucas 11: 37-41

Las leyes de cada sociedad o pueblo son instrumentos para implantar justicia. Sin embargo, en muchas ocasiones las leyes desvirtúan su sentido verdadero.

Para el pueblo de Dios la Ley sintetizaba su Palabra, sellaba la alianza de amor con el Señor; siendo su esencia, la lealtad y el amor a Dios que en el Segundo Testamento es palabra viva en Jesús.

¿Qué razones encuentra Jesús para quebrantar la ley, como se muestra en el pasaje? Para el Maestro, la ley es el amor y todo mandato pierde sentido cuando no lo contempla. Es por ello que, para quienes le seguimos, la fe en Cristo y el amor constituyen una fórmula indivisible. La fe en Jesús conduce al amor que se traduce en práctica de vida, en gestos concretos, libre de recetas que rijan la manera como toma forma.

Si cada acción tiene detrás el amor, nunca estaremos fuera de la ley de Dios. Por ello una pregunta nos puede acompañar en este tiempo de devocional ¿Cómo puedo amar mejor y más?

Oración: Señor muéstranos cómo hacer para que tu amor prevalezca como ley universal. Amén.
