Older People’s Day in Cuba

MESSENGERS OF THE KINGDOM

Luke 9:51-56

And he sent messengers ahead of him.

Luke 9:52 (NRSV)

We find it difficult to analyze the behavior of John and James because we worry that we are like them, and despite their being with Jesus for more than two years seeing his works, his love and mercy, they learned nothing. They even dared to be judges and executioners of others. Fire come down on the Samaritans! Jesus looked on them with pain and sadness. That was not the charge to build God’s reign, nor is it ours.

Some of us have been with God for many years and have not learned. We hasten to judge and sentence different people or groups. Jesus came to save, heal, and teach where justice and love are. He gave us this powerful task: being messengers of God’s Reign of love, hope and faith in order to create a better world.  Let’s put love in every glance, in our ears and in our hearts, and Jesus will be with us giving us peace.

 

Prayer: Eternal Father, put in us the desire to serve and not to judge. Give us your love and simplicity in order that we may live our life in faith. Amen.

MENSAJEROS DEL REINO

Lucas 9:51-56

Y envió mensajeros delante de Él.

Lucas 9:52

Nos es difícil analizar la conducta de Juan y Jacobo porque nos inquieta que seamos como ellos, ya que después de más de dos años con Jesús, viendo sus obras, su amor y misericordia, no aprendieron casi nada. Ellos ya se atrevían a ser jueces y verdugos de los demás. ¡Fuego para los samaritanos! Jesús los mira, con dolor y tristeza. Esa no era la misión para construir el Reino de Dios, ni es nuestra misión ahora.

Algunos llevamos muchos años con Dios y no hemos aprendido. Nos apresuramos a juzgar y sentenciar a personas o grupos diferentes. Jesucristo vino a salvar, sanar y a enseñar dónde está la justicia y el amor. Nos dejó esa misión poderosa: ser mensajeros del Reino de Dios, del amor, la esperanza y la fe para construir un mundo mejor. Pongamos amor en cada mirada, en nuestros oídos y en el corazón, y Jesús estará con nosotros dándonos paz.

 

Oración: Padre eterno, pon en nosotros el deseo de servir, de no juzgar. Danos de tu amor y sencillez para vivir nuestra vida de fe. Amén.
