I INVITE YOU INTO MY HOME

HEBREWS 13:1-3

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers,

for by doing so some

have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.   (NIV)

Hebrews 13:2

The Jews had a saying, “There are six things whose fruit man eats in this world, and for which his stature is elevated in the coming world.” And the list begins by: “Offer hospitality to the stranger and visit the sick.” In our churches we place an emphasis on visitation. But on hospitality? There are moments in which it’s difficult to receive, share with neighbors, family and friends. To be hospitable, well beyond sharing material possessions, is to be ready to assist, to share words of encouragement, to share a simple homemade remedy to alleviate the pain of a headache. 

Some, confronted with a request for hospitality, allege that their homes aren’t big or comfortable enough; but even so, many people would feel thankful for our hospitality.

Let us open our doors and hearts to those who come to us seeking spiritual and material shelter. I’d like us to meditate on: Are there people in our communities that require our hospitality? Is there some way we can supply the needs of the people who approach us in our homes?  Let us be warm and caring and seek those who are at our side to be comfortable. Let’s be hospitable; who knows, perhaps we also are sheltering angels?

Prayer:  Loving father, you have welcomed us with affection into your family. Thank you for your goodness. May we learn to let go of prejudices, and fears. Teach us to be more hospitable. Amen.

TE INVITO A MI HOGAR

HEBREOS 13:1-3

No os olvidéis de la hospitalidad, porque por ella algunos,

sin saberlo, hospedaron ángeles

Hebreos 13:2

Los judíos tenían un dicho: “Hay seis cosas cuyo fruto come el hombre en este mundo y por las que su estado se eleva en el mundo venidero”. Y la lista empieza por: “Ofrecer hospitalidad al forastero y visitar al enfermo”. En nuestras iglesias hacemos énfasis en la visitación, pero ¿y en la hospitalidad? Hay momentos en los cuales nos resulta difícil recibir, compartir con vecinos, familia, amigos. Ser hospitalarios va más allá de compartir bienes materiales, es estar prestos a la ayuda, a compartir palabras de aliento, compartir un simple remedio casero para aliviar un dolor de cabeza. Algunos ante una petición de hospitalidad alegan que sus hogares no son lo bastantes amplios o cómodos, pero aun así muchas personas se sentirían agradecidas por nuestra hospitalidad. Abramos nuestras puertas y corazones a aquellos que llegan a nosotros buscando cobijo espiritual y material. Me gustaría que meditáramos: ¿en nuestras comunidades: hay personas que requieren nuestra hospitalidad?; ¿Existe alguna manera en nuestros hogares en las que podemos suplir las necesidades de quienes se nos acercan? Permitámonos ser calurosos, bondadosos e intentemos que nuestras personas se sientan cómodas a nuestro lado. Seamos hospitalarios, ¿quién sabe, quizás nosotros también amparemos ángeles?

Oración: Amante Padre, Tú nos has acogido con cariño en tu familia, gracias por tu bondad. Permite que aprendamos a despojarnos de prejuicios, temores, enséñanos a ser más hospitalarios. Amén.
