‘”Loving one another’”

John 13:31-35

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

John 13:34 (NIV)

Once more Jesus announces his physical departure. But he does not do so with anguish, but with the glory of having fulfilled his mission: to make men and women truly human, to save us from the bad practices that keep us away from the Christian path.

His hope in us, his disciples, offers us a new commandment, that of loving one another. How hard it is to love without prejudice! How hard it is to love in a society where “what is mine comes first and you do what you can with it.” It is difficult to love in a society immersed in selfishness and indolence.

It is difficult to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes, to be empathetic, to reach out to those who wander the streets in search of help, to share with our sister the rice or sugar reserve until theirs come in. But we are called to rethink and to join in the bid to transform our realities. It is time to look beyond the clothing. Listening, including, accompanying, not judging, are our mission. Only in this way can we consider ourselves followers of Jesus, in whom faith is manifested in words and actions.

Prayer: God of life, accompany each gesture of kindness and love that we share with our neighbors. Amen

‘”Amarnos unas a otros’”

Juan 13, 31-35

Un mandamiento nuevo os doy: Que os améis unos a otros; como yo os he amado

Juan 13.34

Una vez más Jesús anuncia su partida física. Más no lo hace con angustia, sino desde la gloria de haber cumplido su misión: hacer del hombre y la mujer seres verdaderamente humanos, salvarnos de las malas prácticas que nos alejan del camino cristiano.

Su esperanza en nosotros sus discípulos y discípulas, nos ofrece un nuevo mandamiento, el de amarnos mutuamente. ¡Qué difícil amar sin prejuicios! Qué difícil amar en una sociedad donde ‘”lo mío es primero y tú arréglatelas como puedas’”. Es difícil amar en una sociedad sumida en el egoísmo y la indolencia.

Es difícil ponernos en los zapatos de alguien, ser empáticos, tenderle la mano a quien vaga por las calles en busca de ayuda, compartir con la hermana la reserva de arroz o  azúcar hasta que entren los mandados. Pero estamos llamados/as a repensarnos y sumarnos a la apuesta de transformar nuestras realidades. Es tiempo de mirar más allá del atuendo. Escuchar, incluir, acompañar, no juzgar es una nuestra misión. Sólo así podemos considerarnos seguidores de Jesús, en quienes la fe se manifieste en palabras y en acciones.

Oración: Dios de la vida, acompaña cada gesto de bondad, de amor que compartimos con nuestro prójimo. Amén.
