SEEKING PEACE TO BECOME SALT

Mark 9: 42-50

Have salt among yourselves

When I was little, I learned a song of which I don’t remember all the words, but I could never forget either the refrain nor the melody. “We are all the salt of the earth, but if we forget it who will salt it?”

Ever since my childhood, I hadn’t really understood what that song meant. But the question was always: How can we be the salt of the earth? What must we do to become the salt of the earth? The answer was right there in front of my eyes even though I could not see it. Jesus had said it: Live in peace with one other.

In order to begin to live in peace we must imbue our lives with a taste of Jesus and make it known to all those around us. That flavor always permeates our lives whenever we thank God and when we place before Him all our daily situations. It’s there when we are educating our children and those around us to treat others as Jesus taught us, loving them as ourselves, being just, being willing to serve whenever necessary, not judging others, nor with the criteria of third parties, or social networks. May our lives be governed by the teaching of Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, let us to be instruments of peace. Amen.

BUSCAR LA PAZ PARA SER SAL

Marcos 9: 42-50

Tengan sal en ustedes mismos

Marcos 9: 50

Cuando era pequeña aprendí un cántico del cual no recuerdo la letra, pero nunca pude olvidar ni el estribillo ni la melodía. “Todos somos la sal de la tierra, más si lo olvidamos ¿quién la salará?”.

No entendía, desde mi niñez, qué significado tenía esa canción. Pero la pregunta siempre era: ¿Cómo podemos ser la sal de la tierra, qué debemos hacer para llegar a serlo? La respuesta, aunque no la veía estaba ante mis ojos. Jesús lo había dicho: Vivan en paz unos con otros.

Para llegar a vivir en paz debemos impregnarle sabor a Jesús a nuestras vidas y hacerlo llegar a cuantas personas nos rodean. Ese sabor se nos impregna siempre que agradecemos a Dios en todo momento, cuando ponemos ante Él todas nuestras situaciones cotidianas, educando a nuestros hijos y a quienes nos rodean a tratar a los demás como nos enseñó Jesús, amándolos como a nosotros mismos, siendo justos, estando dispuestos a servir siempre que haga falta, no juzgando a los demás, ni con el criterio de terceros, o de las redes sociales. Que nuestra vida sea regida por la enseñanza de Jesús.

Oración: Permítenos Señor ser instrumentos de paz. Amén.
