LET’S IMITATE DAVID

Mark 2: 23-28

And then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath.”

Mark 2: 27

Crossing the field of wheat, Jesus’ disciples were hungry. The Pharisees, far from asking Jesus if they could help or give food to these people, recriminated him when they ate the wheat because they were prohibited from doing it according to the Scriptures. But Jesus’ reply justifies the action.

How difficult it has been in these last months to be able to count on a plate of food at the table! Many people have been affected, above all the most vulnerable due to their lower salaries, pensions or lack of sustenance, or who are sick, alone and walking the streets. In response to this situation our Churches have developed ministries of accompaniment and feeding programs; many of the programs are on Saturday or Sunday.

The task is not easy, it requires resources and the involvement of people who support or implement the mission. At times they can not attend activities or worship on those days which should be times dedicated to worship and communion with God; but with their attitude and commitment they offer the best praises and offerings that can be given to the Lord of the Sabbath: Serve with LOVE.

Prayer: As you teach us Lord, let us put your commandments to LOVE above all things. Amen.

IMITEMOS A DAVID

Marcos 2: 23-28

El sábado se hizo para el hombre, y no el hombre para el sábado.

Marcos 2: 27.

Los discípulos de Jesús, al cruzar los sembrados de trigo, sintieron hambre. Los fariseos; lejos de preguntarle a Jesús si podían ayudar o dar de comer a esas personas, le recriminan porque hacen lo prohibido, según las Escrituras. Pero la réplica de Jesús deja justificada la acción.

¡Qué difícil ha sido en estos últimos meses poder contar con un plato de comida en la mesa! Muchas personas se han visto afectadas; sobre todo las más vulnerables por sus bajos salarios, pensiones o sin sustento alguno, o que están enfermas, solas y en las calles deambulando. Ante esta situación nuestras Iglesias han desarrollado ministerios de acompañamiento y servicio de ayuda en alimentación; muchos de ellos se realizan en días sábado o domingo.

La tarea no es fácil, requiere recursos y entrega de las personas que apoyan o ejecutan la misión. A veces no pueden asistir a las actividades o cultos en esos días, que es un tiempo para dedicarlo a la adoración y comunión con Dios; pero con su actitud y compromiso brindan las mejores alabanzas y ofrendas que se pueda rendir al Señor del Sábado: Servir con AMOR.

Oración: Señor, permite que, como tú nos enseñas, pongamos por encima de todas las cosas tus mandamientos de AMOR. Amén.
