The Fruit of Trust

Jeremiah 17:5-11

Happy are those who trust in the Lord, who rely on the Lord. They will be like trees planted by the streams, whose roots reach down to the water. They won’t fear drought when it comes; their leaves will remain green. They won’t be stressed in the time of drought or fail to bear fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (CEB)

The fruit of trust struggles against the vileness inside of us in order to create a new being, a loving, merciful, peacemaking human who lives and fights for justice, who pardons offenses, who does not return evil for evil, who works in favor of the poor and homeless. Trust moves you to act: are we crossing our arms and waiting for a magic solution? NO!

We are working with a living faith in the Lord, healing broken hearts, freeing the captives, announcing that trust is not an exotic fruit, but a lasting fruit, a fruit that marks the life of our community.  Our prayer and trust are these: “Heal me Lord and I will stay healthy, save me and I will be whole, because you are my praise.”

Let us pray: Lord, may the fruit of truth flower in our hearts, let us affirm with all our strength that you are our only and eternal refuge.  Amen.

El fruto de la confianza.

Jeremías 17:5-11

Bienaventurado el hombre que confía en el Señor, y pone su confianza en él. Será como un árbol plantado junto al agua que extiende sus raíces hacia la corriente; no teme que llegue el calor, y sus hojas están siempre verde. En la época de sequía no se angustia, y nunca deja de dar frutos.

Jeremías 17:7-8

El fruto de la confianza lucha contra la vileza de nuestro interior, para crear un ser nuevo, amoroso, misericordioso y pacificador que vive y lucha por la justicia, que perdona la ofensa, que no devuelve a nadie mal por mal, que obra en favor de los pobres y desposeídos. La confianza te mueve a obrar; ¿estamos de brazos cruzados esperando la solución por arte de magia? ¡NO!

Estamos obrando con una fe viva en el Señor, sanado al corazón quebrantado, liberando al cautivo, anunciando que la confianza no es un fruto exótico, es un fruto permanente, es un fruto que abandera la vida de nuestra comunidad. Nuestra oración y confianza son estas: “Sáname Señor y quedaré sano; sálvame y seré sano, porque tú eres mi alabanza.”

Oremos: Señor, que el fruto de la confianza florezca en nuestros corazones, afirmaremos con todas las fuerzas que tú eres nuestro único y eterno refugio. Amén.
