Jesus Is Near

John 21: 1-19

Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.

John 21:13 (NRSV)

After the Resurrection the disciples became disoriented, and the solution they settled on was to return to their old life as fishers. But Jesus appeared to them telling and inviting them to cast their nets. In the height of discouragement, the nets were filled, and they recognized the Lord who appeared before them so many times in their lives to demonstrate his power and to bless them in their daily work. To ensure that they recognize him, he shares the bread and fish.

Like the disciples we can feel disoriented and worried because there is no food, because our work doesn’t cover our basic needs. Jesus is always near, especially when we most need him. Jesus works daily miracles at our table.  Let us give thanks and raise our spirits, our hopes, and let’s trust that Jesus accompanies us today and always. He is always near. Never doubt it!

Let us pray: Jesus, thank you for providing for our table every day. Thank you for the food that sustains us. Thank you for those who share what they have. Bless our work; bless those who work to provide our needs; take care of us. Amen.

Luego Jesús se acercó, tomó en sus manos el pan y se los dio a ellos; y lo mismo hizo con el pescado

Juan 21:13

Después de la resurrección los discípulos quedaron desorientados y la solución que encontraron fue regresar a su antigua vida como pescadores. Más Jesús se les apareció diciéndoles, invitándoles a lanzar las redes. En medio del desánimo las redes se llenan y reconocen al Señor, quien se presenta ante ellos como tantas veces en su vida, para mostrarles su poder y bendecirles en su trabajo diario. Para garantizar que le reconocieran, comparte el pan y el pescado.

Como los discípulos podemos sentirnos desorientados, preocupadas, porque no hay alimentos, porque nuestro trabajo no cubre nuestras principales necesidades. Pero el texto nos recuerda que Jesús siempre está cerca, especialmente cuando más le necesitamos. Hace el milagro diario en nuestra mesa. Démosle gracias y levantemos nuestros ánimos, las esperanzas y confiemos que Jesús nos acompaña hoy y siempre. Siempre está cerca. ¡No lo dudes!

Oremos:  Jesús, gracias por proveer cada día nuestras mesas.  Gracias por el alimento que nos sustenta. Gracias por quienes comparten lo que tienen.  Bendice nuestro trabajo, bendice a quienes trabajan para cubrir nuestras necesidades, cuídanos. Amén.
