Keep Watch for His Coming

Matthew 24: 37-44

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

Matthew 24:42 (NIV)

When we wake up every morning, we are so busy with our day-to-day responsibilities that we barely give any priority to the tasks that we “plan” to do. In this passage, Jesus compares his return to the story of Noah, where people did not pay attention to the things that should really be their first priorities. However, people were unconcerned and continued with their daily lives as if life were just a series of simple routines. Until one day, the flood came.

Today, Jesus presents us with a new proposal for life that has to do with being more united and vigilant in order to cultivate a better relationship with God through prayer, through the offering of our gifts, and through the study of the Word so that we may live it out in every action we take. Let us not waste the opportunity to feel like sons and daughters of God. He will always be present, offering us his blessing with every step we take. At each dawn, let us prioritize what truly brings us closer to God and how we can always please him.

Let us pray: Thank you, dear God, because I always trust in the plans you have prepared for me. Amen.

Estar alertas a su llegada

Mateo 24: 37-44

… velad pues porque no sabéis a qué hora ha de venir vuestro Señor

Cuando amanecemos cada mañana estamos tan ocupados en las responsabilidades del día a día que apenas le damos prioridad a las tareas que “planificamos” hacer. En este pasaje, Jesús compara su regreso con la historia de Noé, donde la gente no le daba prioridad a aquellas cosas que realmente deberían estar en primeras opciones. Sin embargo, la gente estaba despreocupaba y continuaba con su vida cotidiana como si la vida solo fuese simples rutinas del día. Hasta que un día llegó el diluvio.

Hoy, Jesús nos presenta una nueva propuesta de vida que tiene que ver con estar más unidos y vigilantes para cultivar una mejor relación con Dios a través de la oración, de la entrega que hacemos con nuestros dones, con el estudio de la palabra para vivirlo en cada acción que vayamos hacer.  No desperdiciemos la oportunidad de sentirnos hijos e hijas de Dios. Él siempre estará presente ofreciéndonos su bendición en cada paso que demos. En cada amanecer, prioricemos lo que realmente nos acerque más a Dios y cómo podemos hacer para agradarle siempre. 

Oremos: Gracias buen Dios porque siempre confío en los planes que tienes preparado para mí. Amén.

What should concern us

Luke 21: 34-36

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.

Luke 21:34 (NIV)

This morning’s Gospel is very clear in its message about life for all listeners who wish to remain in communion with God. It tells us how beautiful life would be if we lived according to his precepts. This passage instructs us not to let ourselves be carried away by our daily concerns, because we may fall into the error of distancing ourselves from God.

Luke’s invitation is very simple, but also challenging, especially in a context where “CONSUMPTION” is very much a part of the different areas of our lives. For this reason, it would be a good opportunity not to give prominence to greed, selfishness, and gluttony for food, drink, and material resources that we long to have. These things distract us from what really matters in our lives. Let us continue to seek God in the faces of others, helping and serving at all times, and to trust that these actions are part of God’s plans for each one of us.

Let us pray: Lord and God, give us the courage to discern your message of life amid our daily concerns. Strengthen us and help us to respond to them with faith. Amen.

Lo que debe importarnos

Lucas 21: 34-36

…mirad también por vosotros mismos, que vuestros corazones no se carguen de glotonería y embriaguez y de los afanes de esta vida, y venga de repente sobre vosotros aquel día

El Evangelio de esta mañana es muy claro en su mensaje de vida para todos los oyentes que deseen seguir en comunión con Dios. Nos habla de cuán hermoso sería disfrutar la vida cuando ésta se vive según sus preceptos. Este pasaje nos instruye a no dejarnos llevar por nuestras preocupaciones cotidianas porque podemos caer en el error de alejarnos de Dios.

La invitación que nos deja Lucas es muy sencilla y desafiante, especialmente, en un contexto donde se vive mucho el “CONSUMO” visto desde diferentes áreas de nuestra vida. Por tal razón, sería una buena oportunidad para no darle protagonismo a la codicia, al egoísmo, aquellas glotonerías por comidas, bebidas y recursos materiales que anhelamos tener porque son líneas que nos distraen de lo que realmente importa en nuestra vida. Sigamos buscando a Dios en los rostros de los demás, ayudando y sirviendo en todo momento, y confiemos en que estas acciones son parte de los planes que tiene Dios con cada uno de nosotros.

Oremos: Señor y Dios, danos la valentía para discernir tu mensaje de vida en medio de nuestras preocupaciones diarias. Fortalécenos y ayúdame a responder con fe ante ellas. Amén

Friday, November 28th

His Words Will Live On

Luke 21: 29-33

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Luke 21:33 (NIV)

The proposal for life that Luke brings us in his gospel is interesting. It is an invitation to discern, feel, and live the signs of the times in community, as a family of faith that is renewed day by day with its routines and struggles. This text gives the simple example of a natural plant, the fig tree, alongside other trees that accompany it in its environment. This reminds us that in life there are processes of change, transformation, growth, and more, all of which occur in different ways, but sadly eventually come to an end.

However, the Word of God, that Word that stimulates the soul, frees us from worries, rejuvenates the spirit of life and is the Word we need to hear and feel every day of our lives. It should be the Word we share when we gather in groups of friends, and even in spaces with our families. 

Let us pray: Thank you, dear God, for all the changes you allow in my life that I may continue to follow in your footsteps. Amen.

Sus palabras permanecerán

Lucas 21: 29-33

…el cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras no pasarán

Lucas 21:33

Es interesante la propuesta de vida que nos trae Lucas en su evangelio. Una invitación a discernir, sentir y vivir los signos de los tiempos en comunidad, como una familia de fe que se renueva en el día a día con sus rutinas y luchas. El texto pone el simple ejemplo de una planta natural, la higuera, junto a otros árboles que la acompañan en su entorno, recordándonos que en la vida ocurren procesos de cambios, transformaciones, crecimientos y más, y todo esto ocurriendo de maneras diferentes, pero tristemente llega a un fin.

Sin embargo, la Palabra de Dios, esa Palabra que nos estimula el alma, nos libera de preocupaciones, nos renueva el espíritu de vida, es la Palabra que necesitamos escuchar y sentir todos los días de esta vida. Deber ser la palabra que compartimos cuando nos reunimos en grupos de amigos, amigas, e incluso hasta en espacios con nuestras familias.

Oramos: Gracias buen Dios por todos los cambios que permites en mi vida para seguir en tus sendas. Amén

“Where Are the Nine?”

Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?”

Luke 17:17 (NIV)

Ten lepers approach Jesus from afar, united in their pain, their exclusion, and their need. Leprosy was not just a physical disease, but also a social and spiritual one: lepers lived in isolation, without human contact, without hope. But when they see Jesus, they shout out: “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

Jesus does not touch them, nor does he promise immediate healing. He tells them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests”. And as they obey, they are healed. Obedient faith precedes the miracle. But what is most striking is not the healing, but the response: only one returns. And he is the Samaritan.

This man was not only healed physically, but also spiritually. His gratitude led him to fall down before Jesus, recognizing not only the healer, but the Savior. Jesus blesses him with a distinct word: “Your faith has saved you.” He was not only cleansed; he was redeemed.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your mercy that reaches me even when I am far away. Help me to always return to you. May my gratitude be constant, profound and alive. May my faith not only obey you but also adore you. Amen.

“¿Dónde están los nueve?”

“¿No son diez los que fueron limpiados? ¿Y los nueve, dónde están?”

Lucas 17:17

Diez leprosos se acercan a Jesús desde lejos, unidos por su dolor, su exclusión y su necesidad. La lepra no solo era una enfermedad física, sino también social y espiritual: los leprosos vivían aislados, sin contacto humano, sin esperanza. Pero al ver a Jesús, levantan la voz: “¡Jesús, Maestro, ten misericordia de nosotros!”

Jesús no los toca ni les promete sanidad inmediata. Les dice: “Id, mostraos a los sacerdotes” Y mientras obedecen, son sanados. La fe obediente precede al milagro. Pero lo más impactante no es la sanidad, sino la respuesta: solo uno regresa. Y es samaritano.

Este hombre no solo fue sanado físicamente, sino espiritualmente. Su gratitud lo llevó a postrarse ante Jesús, reconociendo no solo al sanador, sino al Salvador. Jesús lo bendice con una palabra distinta: “Tu fe te ha salvado”. No solo fue limpio, fue redimido.

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias por tu misericordia que me alcanza aun cuando estoy lejos. Ayúdame a regresar siempre a ti. Que mi gratitud sea constante, profunda y viva. Que mi fe no solo te obedezca, sino que te adore. Amén.
