LET’S NOT LOSE SIGHT OF WHAT IS IMPORTANT

Luke 19: 45-48

He said to them, “It’s written, My home will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a hideout for crooks.”

Luke 19:46 (CEB)

In this account, Jesus enters the temple and throws out the sellers and money changers, saying that they had converted the house of his Father into a robbers’ cave. This act of purification not only reveals Jesus’ indignation due to corruption and the lack of reverence for a holy place, but also invites reflection on the true nature of worship and relationship with God. The temple, in the Jewish tradition, was a center of encounter with the Divine, a space intended for prayer and spiritual connection. However, the commercialization of this sacred experience shows that often priorities get changed. This passage challenges us to examine our own lives:  Have we allowed distractions and daily worries to invade our spiritual space?

Jesus’ reaction also reminds us that the love of God does not tolerate injustice or hypocrisy.  His action is a call to authenticity in our faith, to look for a clean heart and a place of genuine encounter with God. In the end, this passage invites us to restore sacred worship in our lives and return to center our adoration on what is really important. 

Prayer: Good God, teach us to center our lives on what is really important.  Amen.

NO PERDAMOS DE VISTA LO IMPORTANTE

Lucas 19: 45-48

Les decía: escrito está: “mi casa es casa de oración” ¡Pero ustedes la han hecho de ella una cueva de ladrones!

En el relato, Jesús entra en el templo y expulsa a los vendedores y cambistas, denunciando que han convertido la casa de su Padre en una cueva de ladrones. Este acto de purificación no solo revela la indignación de Jesús por la corrupción y la falta de reverencia en el lugar sagrado, sino que también invita a reflexionar sobre la verdadera naturaleza de la adoración y la relación con Dios. El templo, en la tradición judía, era el centro de encuentro con lo divino, un espacio destinado a la oración y la conexión espiritual. Sin embargo, la comercialización de esta experiencia sagrada muestra cómo, a menudo, las prioridades se desvían. Este pasaje desafía a examinar nuestras propias vidas: ¿hemos permitido que las distracciones y las preocupaciones cotidianas invadan nuestro espacio espiritual?

La reacción de Jesús también nos recuerda que el amor de Dios no tolera la injusticia ni la hipocresía. Su acción es un llamado a la autenticidad en nuestra fe, a buscar un corazón limpio y un lugar de encuentro genuino con Él. Al final, este pasaje nos invita a restaurar el propósito sagrado en nuestras vidas y a volver a centrar nuestra adoración en lo que realmente importa.
