The Widow’s Offering

Luke 21:1-4

“Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others.”

Luke 21:3 (NIV)

Nothing goes unnoticed by Jesus. In the middle of that Temple, where there were thirteen boxes or chests for depositing offerings, and despite the discretion with which the widow may have deposited her coins, He saw her.

Her contribution was small, but at the same time great. To give everything is to place ourselves in God’s hands, who never lets us win in generosity. Jesus invites us to make being consistent from within more important.

We have much to offer God: part of our time, our gifts, along with financial and material resources.

Generously offering our possibilities, considering the problems of the Church as our own, always being willing to help those in need, being present in the political, social, and cultural life of the society in which we live with the purpose of influencing these sectors in a Chrisitan way, is to behave as God wants us to. It is, as in the case of the widow, giving what we have.

Prayer: Lord, teach us to be generous and to share so that we may cooperate in the creation of Your Kingdom. Amen.

La Ofrenda de La Viuda

Lucas 21: 1-4

En verdad os digo, que esta viuda pobre echó más que todos.

Lucas 21: 3

Nada pasa inadvertido para Jesús. En medio de aquel Templo, donde había trece cajas o arcas para depositar las ofrendas y a pesar de la discreción que pudo haber tenido la viuda al depositar sus monedas, Él la vio.

Su aporte fue pequeño, pero al mismo tiempo grande. Darlo todo es quedarse en manos de Dios que nunca nos deja ganar en generosidad. Jesús nos invita a que debemos dar importancia a ser coherentes desde el interior.

Tenemos mucho para brindarle a Dios: parte de nuestro tiempo, nuestros dones, recursos económicos y materiales.

Entregar generosamente nuestras posibilidades, considerando los problemas de la Iglesia como propios, estar dispuestos a ayudar siempre a quienes lo necesiten, hacernos presentes en la vida política, social y cultural de la sociedad en que vivimos con el propósito de influir cristianamente en esos sectores, es comportarse como Dios quiere. Es, como en el caso de la viuda, dar lo que tenemos.

Oración: Señor, enséñanos a ser generosos y compartir para poder cooperar con la Creación de tu Reino. Amén.
