CRUCIFIXION AND DEATH OF JESUS

Luke 23:35-43

The people were standing around watching, but the leaders sneered at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself if he really is the Christ sent from God, the chosen one.”

It’s humiliating to be sneered at by the leaders and soldiers, and even including the sneers of one of the crucified ones; as well as the sign hanging on the cross: Jesus Nazarene King of the Jews.  Jesus, like God, is discredited before the Jews because he does not show off  his power.

The idea that a God who does not tolerate defeat, prevents them from seeing the reality of God’s love as manifested in Jesus.

This humiliation and extreme weakness of the cross is the place from which Jesus reigns, different from all earthly kings. From there he shows us that although the invitation to serve others unconditionally many times scares us, it is from the cross and not from power that the Kingdom of God comes. 

Prayer:  Lord, let us open the eyes of our hearts to clearly see reality, and enable us to contribute to  freedom, to your Kingdom, right where we are. Amen.

CRUCIFIXIÓN Y MUERTE DE JESÚS

Lucas 23:35-43

Si Él es el elegido de Dios, el Mesías, entonces que se salve a si mismo. Salvó a otros, ¿no?

Resulta humillante la burla de los gobernantes y soldados, incluyendo a la de uno de los crucificados, así como el letrero colgado en la cruz: Jesús Nazareno Rey de los Judíos. Jesús, como Dios, queda desacreditado ante los judíos porque no hace ostentación de su poder.

La idea de un Dios, que no tolera la derrota, les impide ver la realidad del Dios en amor manifestada en Jesús.

Desde la humillación y la debilidad extrema de la cruz es desde donde Jesús reina, diferente a todos los reyes de la tierra. Desde allí nos indica que aunque la invitación a servir incondicionalmente a los demás muchas veces nos asusta, es desde la cruz y no desde el poder como se llega al Reino de Dios.

Oración:  Señor, ábrenos los ojos del corazón para distinguir claramente la realidad, y desde nuestro lugar aportar a la liberación, al tu Reinado. Amén.
