HOW TO LIVE THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

Matthew 13:47-53

“…therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”

Matthew 13:52 (NIV)

Proclaiming the Kingdom of heaven is one of Jesus’ most significant teachings. Through his anecdotes and parables, he invited his listeners to transform their lives and those of their families. Hence, understanding this spiritual reality of the Kingdom led to changing the meaning of the lives of those who sought and lived it.

In our days, we frequently hear ideas such as, “it’s very easy to change our day; it’s impossible to change others,” but the reality is different if we look at it from the perspective of faith in Jesus. While He preached, many listened to Him. It is possible that they had doubts or questions about what He was talking about, but they understood His message in the light of the emphasis and meaning of the life He was teaching them.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to enjoy this morning. Use us as instruments to make your Kingdom visible in our midst. Amen.

CÓMO VIVIR EL REINO DE LOS CIELOS

Mateo 13: 47-53

“…entonces Jesús le dijo: cuando un maestro de la ley se instruye acerca del reino de los cielos, se parece al dueño de una casa, que de lo que tiene guardado sabe sacar cosas nuevas y cosas viejas…”

Mt 13.52

Anunciar el Reino de los cielos constituye una de las enseñanzas más significativas de Jesús. Mediante sus anécdotas y parábolas invitaba a sus oyentes a transformar sus vidas y las de sus familias. De ahí que, entender esta realidad espiritual del Reino llevó a cambiar el sentido de la vida de quienes lo buscaban y lo vivían.

En nuestros días, con frecuencia escuchamos ideas tales como: “es muy fácil cambiar nuestro día”, “es imposible cambiar a los demás” pero la realidad es otra si la miramos desde la fe en Jesús. Mientras Él predicaba muchos le escuchaban y es posible que tuviesen dudas o preguntas de lo que hablaba, pero entendían su mensaje a la luz del énfasis y sentido de la vida que les enseñaba.

Oración: Gracias Señor por permitirnos disfrutar de esta mañana. Úsanos como instrumentos para hacer visible tu Reino en medio nuestro. Amén

THE VALUE THAT SURPASSES EVERYTHING

Matthew 13:44-46

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”

Matthew 13:44 (NIV)

Years ago, I knew a lady who thanked God for “the good” and “the not so good” that had happened to her. Even when she was ill and knew that her days were numbered, she showed enormous joy in praising God and in serving. Those who accompanied her on her deathbed say that she said goodbye with a smile.

The parables of the hidden treasure and the pearl of great value invite us to reflect upon our own priorities and desires. Both characters, upon discovering the value of the Kingdom, make radical decisions, valuing the permanent over the temporary. The detachment from material things highlights a fundamental principle of Christianity: the faith and commitment to God.

The value of the Kingdom is incomparable. There is joy in the hearts of those who find this great treasure and when they have made it their own, they cannot resist sharing it. Perhaps that was the truth hidden behind the smile of that lady.

Prayer: God, teach us to discover and prioritize the Kingdom above all things. Amen.

EL VALOR QUE SUPERA TODO.

Mateo 13:44-46

“Además, el reino de los cielos es semejante a un tesoro escondido en un campo, el cual un hombre halla, y lo esconde de nuevo; y gozoso por ello va y vende todo lo que tiene, y compra aquel campo”

Mateo 13. 44

Hace años conocí a una señora que agradecía a Dios por lo “bueno” y lo “no tan bueno” que le sucedía. Aún enferma sabiendo que sus días estaban contados, mostraba enorme alegría al alabar a Dios y para servir. Cuentan, quienes la acompañaron en su lecho de muerte, que se despidió con una sonrisa.

Las parábolas del tesoro escondido y de la perla preciosa nos invitan a reflexionar sobre nuestras prioridades y deseos. Ambos personajes, al descubrir el valor del Reino, toman decisiones radicales, valorar lo permanente sobre lo temporal. El desapego a lo material resalta un principio fundamental del cristianismo: la fe y el compromiso con Dios.

El valor del Reino es incomparable. Hay gozo en el corazón del que encuentra este gran tesoro y cuando lo ha hecho suyo no se resiste a compartirlo. Tal vez fue la verdad oculta tras la sonrisa de aquella señora.

Oración: Dios, enséñanos a descubrir y priorizar el Reino por sobre todas las cosas. Amén.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

John 11:19-27

“When Martha hears that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him …”

John 11: 20a (NIV)

This text is set within the context of the death of Lazarus, a crucial event in the ministry of Jesus. Martha, upon finding out about the arrival of Jesus, goes out to meet him. Although she complains about his delay, she knows that Jesus has power. But, Jesus, for his part, waits for her to take the initiative, because unlike the Jews, He did not come to comfort but rather to restore life.

Why go out to meet him?

Many people feel a deep need to search for meaning in life. Going out to meet Jesus is the path to the revelation of truth, because Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6a) Approaching Jesus challenges us to leave behind old ways of being. It motivates us to live authentically, compassionately, and lovingly. Encountering Him changes our perspective, our values and our behaviors. It is a transformative process that liberates, that heals, and that offers us a renewed sense of hope. And you, what are you waiting for to go out to meet him?

Prayer: Dear God, gives us the courage to go out to meet with your Son always. Amen.

¿QUÉ ESTÁS ESPERANDO?

Juan 11:19-27

“Entonces Marta, cuando oyó que Jesús venía, salió a encontrarle”

Juan 11: 20a

Este texto se sitúa en el contexto de la muerte de Lázaro, evento crucial en el ministerio de Jesús. Marta, al enterarse de la llegada de Jesús, sale a su encuentro. Aunque le reclama su tardanza, ella sabe que Jesús tiene poder. Más Jesús, por su parte, espera que ella tome la iniciativa, porque a diferencia de los judíos, Él no vino a consolar sino a devolver la vida.

¿Por qué salir a su encuentro?

Muchas personas sienten una necesidad profunda de buscar significados a la vida. Salir al encuentro con Jesús es el camino hacia la revelación de la verdad, porque Jesús es “el camino, y la verdad y la vida” (Juan 14: 6a). Acercarnos a Jesús nos desafía a dejar atrás viejas formas de ser, nos motiva a vivir de manera auténtica, compasiva, amorosa. Encontrarnos con Él produce un cambio de perspectiva, de valores, de comportamientos. Es un proceso de transformación que libera, que sana, que nos ofrece un sentido renovado de esperanza. Y tú: ¿Qué esperas para salir a su encuentro?

Oración: Amado Dios, danos valentía para ir al encuentro con tu Hijo siempre. Amén.
