ALL ARE CALLED

Matthew 9: 9-13

But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.”

Matthew 9:12 (NRSV)

As we read in the scriptures, from the beginning Jesus was teaching with words and deeds. After calling humble and poor fishermen to be his disciples, Jesus unexpectedly passed through the place most rejected by the Jews, despised by the people who saw in the tax collectors, like Matthew, the symbol of betrayal. But despite all that he thought, Jesus called him, gave him a chance, and made him one of them. Matthew followed him and changed his life, leaving behind the money to become a better person.

It’s also happening now; the Lord always offers us an opportunity. We also must receive with joy all the people with whom he surrounds the church. Our prejudices or doubts about new arrivals, our surprise at seeing them among us for the first time, give rise to disunity and suspicion. Moreover,  the opportunity offered by Jesus is for everyone. Let’s open our churches and hearts to all who need love and help them to become new creations in Christ. Amen.

Prayer: Lord, give us a pure heart to love mutually and you have loved us. Amen.

TODOS SOMOS LLAMADOS

Mateo 9, 9-13

Al oír esto, Jesús les dice: los sanos no tienen necesidad de médico, sino los enfermos

Mt 9.12

Tal como leemos en las escrituras, desde el principio Jesús enseñaba con palabras y con hechos. Después de llamar a pescadores, humildes y pobres para que fuesen sus discípulos. Inesperadamente Jesús pasó por el lugar más rechazado por los judíos, despreciado por el pueblo que veía en los publicanos, como Mateo, el símbolo de la traición. Más contra todo lo pensado, Jesús lo llama, le da una oportunidad, lo hace uno de ellos. Mateo lo sigue y cambia su vida, deja atrás el dinero para ser una mejor persona.

También sucede ahora, el Señor siempre nos ofrece una oportunidad. Además debemos recibir con gozo a todas las personas que se acercan a la iglesia. Nuestros prejuicios o dudas ante quienes llegan, ante la sorpresa verle entre nosotros por primera vez, dan lugar a la desunión y suspicacias. Más la oportunidad de Jesús es para todos, todas.  Abramos los templos y corazones a quienes necesitan amor y cuidados para ser nuevas criaturas en Cristo.

Oración: Señor, danos un corazón puro para amarnos mutuamente, como tú nos has amado. Amén.
