 WE ARE BLESSED

John 20, 24-29

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.

John 20.29 (NRSV)

Traditionally, Thomas has been considered to be a suspicious character. After the death of their Teacher, the disciples were hidden for fear of the Romans. Thomas had left and on his return the disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord,” but he didn’t believe them. According to the passage, the following week Jesus returned. Then Thomas saw him and believed.

Our encounters with Jesus Christ are different and personal. But even so, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.” We all form the Church Universal and serve God, trusting in the Risen Christ, who accompanies the Church with his Holy Spirit and strengthens it despite our weaknesses. That gives value and meaning to the movement that is the Christian Church. We are blessed, blessed because without seeing we believe and have disposition to live and build God’s Reign.

Prayer: Spirit of love, thank you for your presence and your work which remains in the Church for ever. Help us to see you in those who need you the most. Amen.

 SOMOS BIENAVENTURADOS

Juan 20, 24-29

“Bienaventurados los que no vieron y creyeron”

Jn 20.28

Tradicionalmente se ha considerado a Tomás como un hombre desconfiado. Después de la muerte de su Maestro, los discípulos estaban escondidos, por miedo de los romanos. Tomás había salido y a su regreso los amigos le contaron “Hemos visto al Seño”, pero él no les creyó.  Según el pasaje a la semana siguiente el Señor volvió. Entonces Tomás lo vio y creyó.

Nuestros encuentros con Jesucristo son diferentes y personales. Pero aun así: Bienaventurados los que no vieron y creyeron. Quienes formamos la Iglesia Universal y servimos a Dios, confiamos en Cristo Resucitado, que acompaña a la iglesia con su Espíritu Santo y la hace fuerte a pesar de nuestras flaquezas. Esto da valor y sentido al movimiento que es la iglesia cristiana. Somos bienaventurados, bienaventuradas porque sin ver, creemos y tenemos la disposición para vivir y construir el Reino de Dios.

Oración: Espíritu de amor, gracias porque tu presencia y tu obra permanecen en la iglesia para siempre. Ayúdanos a verte en los que más necesitan de ti. Amén.
