JESUS, LORD OF THE SABBATH AND OF MERCY

Matthew 12:1-8

 “The Human One is Lord of the Sabbath.”

Matt. 12:8 (CEB)

Jesus and his disciples walked through the wheat fields on the sabbath. Being hungry, they grabbed the tips of the wheat to eat and the pharisees reprimanded them for breaking the sabbath. But Jesus responded wisely, reminding them of the examples in the Old Testament where human need is the priority above the law. This passage invites us to reflect on the true intention of the law and the importance of mercy above legalism. Jesus shows us how the law should not be a weight that oppresses, but a guide to living with justice and love. The sabbath, a symbol of rest and encounter with God, can not be a reason to judge or limit compassion.

In our life, this challenges us to prioritize mercy, understanding and love toward others, especially in moments when the rules are rigid and exclusive. True spirituality is love that is visible in concrete actions, not only in strictly completed standards.

Prayer: Jesus, teach me to value compassion and the well-being of others more than rigid fulfillment of the law. Amen.

JESÚS, SEÑOR DEL SÁBADO Y DE LA MISERICORDIA

Mateo 12:1-8

 “Sepan que el Hijo del hombre, es señor del sábado”

Mt 12.8

Jesús y sus discípulos caminaban por los campos de trigo en sábado, al tener hambre, arrancan espigas para comer y los fariseos los reprenden por violar el sábado. Pero Jesús responde con sabiduría, les recuerda ejemplos del Antiguo Testamento donde la necesidad humana es prioridad por sobre la ley. Este pasaje nos invita a reflexionar sobre la verdadera intención de la ley y la importancia de la misericordia sobre el legalismo. Jesús nos muestra como la ley no debe ser peso que oprime, sino guía para vivir con justicia y amor. El sábado, símbolo de descanso y encuentro con Dios, no puede ser motivo para juzgar o limitar la compasión.

En nuestra vida, esto nos desafía a priorizar la misericordia, la comprensión y el amor hacia los demás, especialmente en momentos donde las reglas son rígidas y excluyentes. La verdadera espiritualidad está en el amor que se manifiesta en acciones concretas, no solo en el cumplimiento estricto de normas.

Oración: Jesús, enséñame a valorar la compasión y el bienestar de los demás más que el cumplimiento rígido de la ley. Amén.
