TRUE SIGNS

Matthew 12:38-42

At that time some of the legal experts and the Pharisees requested of Jesus, “Teacher, we would like to see a sign from you.”

This text reminds me of a story that my father told me about a man who was drowning and begged God for a miracle that could save him. Three boats went by which were sufficiently strong to hold him, but he continued praying to God. Finally, he died, asking himself, why did God not come to help me? God’s answer was this: I sent three boats to help you, but you couldn’t see any of them because you were too busy asking me for miracles.

Often something similar happens to us: we look for divine signs to understand what God is doing, and constantly we ask ourselves “why?” Our life floods with these questions and we are so busy drowning ourselves in them that we don’t see the true signs of well-being that God in God’s infinite mercy sends to us.

Let’s not remain stuck suffocating in our problems and worries when we can open up a sea of possibilities and divine signs.

Prayer: Merciful Lord, we ask you for the discernment to see your loving hand in the midst of our anxieties and cares; we trust in your power and your path of salvation. Amen.

SEÑALES VERDADERAS

Mateo 12:38-42

“Algunos de los fariseos y maestros de la ley dijeron entonces a Jesús: Maestro, queremos verte hacer alguna señal milagrosa”

Este texto me recuerda a una historia que me contó mi papá, acerca de un hombre que se ahogaba y le pedía a Dios alguna un milagro que lo salvarse. Pasaron por delante de él tres troncos suficientemente fuertes para sostenerlo, sin embargo, siguió orando a Dios. Finalmente murió preguntándose, “¿por qué Dios no acudió en mi ayuda?” La respuesta de Dios fue esta: “mandé tres troncos en tu ayuda, pero no pudiste ver ninguno, estabas demasiado ocupado pidiéndome milagros”.

A menudo nos sucede similar, buscamos señales divinas para entender aquello que hace Dios, y constantemente nos preguntamos el por qué. Nuestra vida se inunda con esta pregunta y estamos tan ocupados ahogándonos en ellas, que no vemos las señales verdaderas de bienestar que Dios en su infinita misericordia, envía.

No nos quedemos parados asfixiándonos en nuestros problemas y preocupaciones, cuando podemos abrirnos a un mar de posibilidades y señales divinas.

Oración: Señor misericordioso, te pedimos que discernimiento para ver tu mano amorosa en medio de nuestras angustias y carencias; confiamos en tu poder y tu camino de salvación. Amén.
