Who Is This That Even the Wind Obeys?

Mark 4:35-41

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Mark 4:39 (NIV)

This passage reminds us that Christian life is not exempt from storms. Even when obeying the Lord, we can be faced with moments of fear, uncertainty and danger. However, the central teaching is that Christ is present in the midst of storms. His authority over creation reveals that there is no circumstance beyond his control. Often, like the disciples, we doubt his care and think he is sleeping in the face of our suffering. But His word assures us that we are not alone. The same Jesus who calmed the sea continues to be our refuge and our peace. Today, let us be invited to trust in His power and to rest in His presence, even when the ground beneath us is unstable, when the winds blow strong. Let us seek Him in all we do and we will weather the storms.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that in the midst of our storms you are our peace. Increase our faith to trust in your power and rest in your presence. Help us remember that nothing escapes your authority and that with you there is always hope. Amen.

ENERO 31, Sábado

¿Quién es Este que Aún el Viento Obedece?

Marcos 4, 35-41

Y levantándose, reprendió al viento, y dijo al mar: Calla, enmudece. Y cesó el viento, y se hizo grande bonanza.

Marcos 4.39

Este pasaje nos recuerda que la vida cristiana no está exenta de tormentas. Aun obedeciendo al Señor, podemos enfrentar momentos de miedo, incertidumbre y peligro. Sin embargo, la enseñanza central es que Cristo está presente en medio de la tempestad. Su autoridad sobre la creación revela que no hay circunstancia fuera de su control. Muchas veces, como los discípulos, dudamos de su cuidado y pensamos que Él duerme ante nuestro sufrimiento. Pero su palabra nos asegura que no estamos solos. El mismo Jesús que calmó el mar sigue siendo nuestro refugio y nuestra paz. Hoy, seamos invitados a confiar en su poder y descansar en su presencia, aun cuando se nos desestabiliza el suelo, cuando los vientos soplen fuerte. Busquémosle en todo tiempo y resistiremos las tormentas.

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias porque en medio de nuestras tormentas Tú eres nuestra paz. Aumenta nuestra fe para confiar en tu poder y descansar en tu presencia. Haznos recordar que nada escapa a tu autoridad y que contigo siempre hay esperanza. Amén.

THE SEED AND THE KINGDOM

Mark 4:26-34

It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of seeds on earth.

Mark 4:31 (NIV)

The people that followed Jesus were drawn to his way of speaking. His words were simple and spoken in the same way people talked in their own everyday lives. He spoke very differently from the temple leaders, who only remembered absurd laws and did not lead people to faith but to compliance with the law.

Jesus often spoke in parables, but he explained their meaning to his disciples. Jesus encouraged everyone to meditate on his words, as if warming a small seed that had been sown. It is like the mustard seed, that has been planted in us as if by “chance”, but the Holy Spirit caused it to germinate and grow so that, together with many others, it would form the Kingdom of God on earth, forming this great Universal Church that worships and confesses that Christ is Lord for the glory of God the Father.

Prayer: Eternal God, who eagerly sows the seeds of faith each day, make that faith take root in us as strongly as the precious and great mustard seed. Amen.

ENERO 30, Viernes

LA SEMILLA Y EL REINO

Marcos 4:26-34

Es como el grano de mostaza, que cuando se siembra en tierra, es la más pequeña de todas las semillas que hay en la tierra.

Marcos 4: 31-34

Las personas que seguían a Jesús eran atraídas por su manera de hablar, Sus palabras eran sencillas y acorde al medio en que se movían los pobladores, muy distintas a los jefes del templo, que solo recordaban leyes absurdas y que no llevaban a la fe sino a cumplir la ley.

Jesús muchas veces, como ahora hablaba con parábola, más, a los discípulos les decía su significado. Jesús hacía que todos, unos y otros meditaran en sus palabras, como dándole calor a una pequeña semilla sembrada. Es como la semilla de mostaza, que fue sembrada en nosotros como por “casualidad”, más el Espíritu Santo la hizo germinar y crecer para con muchas otras formar el Reino de Dios en la tierra, formando esta gran Iglesia Universal que adora y confiesa que Cristo es el Señor para gloria de Dios Padre.

Oración:  Eterno Dios, que cada día siembras con afán la semilla de fe, haz que esa fe tenga en nosotros raíces fuertes como el precioso y gran árbol de mostaza. Amén.

THE MEASURE OF LIGHT

Mark 4:21-24

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.

Mark 4:22 (NIV)

We all know well how to use light to shine on others. We have learned about this every day, but what is this light that Jesus says must illuminate everyone?

One might think that the Lord is speaking about two different things: enlightening and hearing. But he clearly tells us to pay close attention to what we hear, that is, to use wisely the treasure he spoke to us about, for it is the best. And here, look, he means that we should take care, because from hearing comes faith, and the measure of our faith will be what we receive: abilities, love, empathy, and everything that makes us shine and illuminate every step we take. Let us use that treasure. That faith we hear about cannot be hidden within us; we must let it shine so that it illuminates everyone around us. Receiving, caring and sharing, that is the task of a true Christian.

Prayer: Our Father, may the light you have placed in us shine brightly every day, and only for your glory. Amen.

ENERO 29,  Jueves

LA MEDIDA DE LA LUZ

Marcos 4:21-24

Porque no hay nada oculto que no haya de ser manifestado ni escondido que no haya de salir a la luz.

Marcos 4:22

Sabemos bien, cómo utilizar una luz para que alumbre a todos, lo hemos aprendido cada día, pero cuál es esta luz que dice Jesús que tiene que alumbrar a todos.

Pudiera pensarse que el Señor habla de dos cosas distintas, alumbrar y oír, pero nos dice, claramente, miren bien lo que oíd, o sea, cuiden bien de ese tesoro del que le hablaron pues es el mejor, y aquí mirad, quiere decir eso, que cuidemos, porque del oír viene la fe y la medida de nuestra fe, será por la que recibiremos, capacidades, amor, empatía y todo esto que nos hace brillar, y alumbrar cada paso que demos, utilicemos ese tesoro. Esa fe, de la que oímos es la que no puede estar escondida en nosotros, esa es la que tenemos que hacer brillar para que alumbre a todos los que están cerca. Recibir, cuidar y compartir esa es la tarea de un verdadero Cristiano.

Oración:  Padre nuestro, haz que la luz que pusiste en nosotros brille con fuerza cada día, y sólo para tu gloria. Amén.
