The Beloved Son and Our Identity

Matthew 3:13-17

And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Jesus approaches John to be baptized in the Jordan River. Although John resists, the Lord insists, showing his willingness to fulfill all righteousness. As he comes out of the water, the heavens open, the Spirit descends like a dove, and the voice of the Father declares, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

This passage reveals the profound identity of Christ and, at the same time, reminds us of our own. Jesus enters the waters as one of us.

For us, baptism is also a seal of identity: we are beloved sons and daughters of God. In a world that constantly defines us by achievements, failures, or labels, the voice of the Father reminds us that our true identity is in Christ. Today, let us remember that all people are loved and called to live in that certainty, with gratitude and faithfulness.

Prayer: Beloved Father, thank you for calling us sons and daughters in Christ. Help us to live each day in the certainty of your love and in the strength of your Spirit. May our lives reflect the glory of your Son Jesus and be a witness to your grace in the world. Amen.

El Hijo Amado y Nuestra Identidad

Mateo 3, 13-17

Y hubo una voz de los cielos, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia.

Mateo 3,17

Jesús se acerca a Juan para ser bautizado en el Jordán. Aunque Juan se resiste, el Señor insiste, mostrando su disposición a cumplir toda justicia. Al salir del agua, los cielos se abren, el Espíritu desciende como paloma y la voz del Padre declara: “Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia”.

Este pasaje revela la profunda identidad de Cristo y al mismo tiempo, nos recuerda la nuestra. Jesús, entrando en las aguas como uno de nosotros.

Para nosotros, el bautismo es también un sello de identidad: somos hijas e hijos amados por Dios. En un mundo que constantemente nos define por logros, fracasos o etiquetas, la voz del Padre nos recuerda que nuestra verdadera identidad está en Cristo. Hoy, recordemos que todas las personas somos amadas y llamadas a vivir en esa certeza, con gratitud y fidelidad.

Oración: Padre amado, gracias por llamarnos hijas e hijos en Cristo. Haznos vivir cada día en la certeza de tu amor y en la fuerza de tu Espíritu. Que nuestra vida refleje la gloria de tu Hijo Jesús y sea testimonio de tu Gracia en el mundo. Amén.
