The Call that Transforms

Mark 1:14-20

At once they left their nets and followed him.

Mark 1:18 (NIV)

We see Jesus beginning his ministry by proclaiming, “The time has come, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe the good news.” In this context, he calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John, who leave their nets and follow him.

This reminds us that Christ’s call is urgent and transformative. It is not a casual invitation, but a radical decision: to leave behind what binds us and walk after the Master. The disciples did not know everything that following him would entail, but they trusted his voice and responded with obedience.

The Gospel confronts us today with the same invitation. Jesus calls us to change course and to believe in the good news of his Kingdom. Following him means putting him at the center of our lives, even when this means giving up security or personal plans.

As a church, we must remember that our mission does not stem from our own strength, but from the call of Christ. He calls us to proclaim, in word and deed, that the Kingdom of God is present.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for calling us to follow you. Grant us the courage to leave behind what prevents us from obeying you and the faith to walk with you each day. Amen.

El llamado que Transforma

Marcos 1, 14-20

 Y dejando luego sus redes, le siguieron.

Marcos 1.18

Vemos a Jesús iniciar su ministerio proclamando: “El tiempo se ha cumplido, y el reino de Dios se ha acercado; arrepentíos y creed en el evangelio”. En ese contexto, llama a Simón, Andrés, Jacobo y Juan, quienes dejan sus redes y lo siguen.

Nos recuerda que el llamado de Cristo es urgente y transformador. No se trata de una invitación ligera, sino de una decisión radical: dejar atrás lo que nos ata y caminar tras el Maestro. Los discípulos no sabían todo lo que implicaba seguirle, pero confiaron en su voz y respondieron con obediencia.

El evangelio nos confronta hoy con la misma invitación. Jesús nos llama a cambiar de rumbo y a creer en la buena noticia de su Reino. Seguirle significa ponerlo en el centro de nuestra vida, incluso cuando eso implique renunciar a seguridades o proyectos personales.

Como iglesia, debemos recordar que nuestra misión no nace de nuestras fuerzas, sino del llamado de Cristo. Él nos convoca a anunciar con palabras y acciones que el Reino de Dios está presente.

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias por llamarnos a seguirte. Danos la valentía de dejar atrás lo que nos impide obedecerte y la fe para caminar contigo cada día. Amén.
