The Lord of Mercy

Mark 3:1-6

Then he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath,
 to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

Mark 3:4 (NRSV)

This story reminds us that the Kingdom of God is manifested in love that liberates and restores. Jesus reveals to us that true obedience to God consists in doing good, even when our human traditions question it. As disciples, we’re called to examine our hearts. How many times have we placed rules, prejudices, or customs above love for our neighbor? The attitude of the Pharisees warns us of the danger of hardening our hearts and losing sight of the essence of the gospel: mercy.

The man with the withered hand represents all those who suffer limitations, exclusion, or wounds. Jesus places him at the center, reminding us that the community of faith must make room for the vulnerable. The church is called to be a place of restoration, in concrete acts of service and compassion.

Today, the challenge is clear: to follow the example of the Master, doing good regardless of the day or circumstances. Mercy has no calendar; it’s the calling card of those who follow Jesus.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, open our eyes to see the needs of those around us. Deliver us from hardened hearts and teach us to live your mercy in every moment. Amen.

El Señor de la Misericordia

Marcos 3:1-6

Y les dijo: ¿Es lícito en los días de reposo hacer bien, o hacer mal; salvar la vida, o quitarla? Pero ellos callaban.

Este relato nos recuerda que el Reino de Dios se manifiesta en el amor que libera y restaura. Jesús nos revela que la verdadera obediencia a Dios consiste en hacer el bien, incluso cuando las tradiciones humanas lo cuestionan. Como discípulos, estamos llamados a examinar nuestros corazones. ¿Cuántas veces hemos puesto reglas, prejuicios o costumbres por encima del amor al prójimo? La actitud de los fariseos nos advierte del peligro de endurecer el corazón y perder de vista la esencia del evangelio: la misericordia.

El hombre con la mano seca representa a todos aquellos que sufren limitaciones, exclusiones o heridas. Jesús lo coloca en el centro, recordándonos que la comunidad de fe debe dar lugar a los vulnerables. La iglesia está llamada a ser espacio de restauración, en actos concretos de servicio y compasión.

Hoy, el desafío es claro: seguir el ejemplo del Maestro, haciendo el bien sin importar el día ni las circunstancias. La misericordia no tiene calendario; es la carta de presentación de quienes siguen a Jesús.

Oración: Señor Jesús, abre nuestros ojos para ver la necesidad de quienes nos rodean. Líbranos de corazones endurecidos y enséñanos a vivir tu misericordia en cada momento. Amén.
