The Sabbath

Mark 2:23-28

Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

This verse is an invitation to reflect on the purpose of the law and the true freedom that Christ offers us. The Sabbath, instituted by God, was a gift for rest and communion with Him. However, the Pharisees had turned it into a burden, a rigid system that forgot mercy and human need. Jesus reveals that the law should not stifle life, but serve it.

Today we can fall into the same trap: absolutizing rules and traditions until we lose sight of the heart of the gospel. Faith is not about fulfilling external norms, but about living in relationship with the Lord of life. Jesus reminds us that He is the Lord of the Sabbath, and that the Sabbath is for life. This text challenges us to rediscover the meaning of rest in God. The Sabbath points to the fullness that only He can give.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach us to rest in your grace and to live free from legalistic burdens. May each day be an opportunity to experience your mercy and peace. Amen.

El Sábado

Esta es una invitación a reflexionar sobre el propósito de la ley y la verdadera libertad que Cristo nos ofrece. El sábado, instituido por Dios, era un regalo para el descanso y la comunión con Él. Sin embargo, los fariseos lo habían convertido en una carga, en un sistema rígido que olvidaba la misericordia y la necesidad humana. Jesús revela que la ley no debe sofocar la vida, sino servirla.

Hoy podemos caer en la misma trampa: absolutizar reglas y tradiciones hasta perder de vista el corazón del evangelio. La fe no consiste en cumplir normas externas, sino en vivir en relación con el Señor de la vida. Jesús nos recuerda que Él es el Señor del sábado, y este está en función de la vida. Este texto nos desafía a redescubrir el sentido del descanso en Dios. El sábado apunta a la plenitud que sólo Él puede dar.

Oración: Señor Jesús, enséñanos a descansar en tu gracia y a vivir libres de cargas legalistas. Que cada día sea oportunidad para experimentar tu misericordia y tu paz. Amén.
