Where Do We Show True Love?

John 21, 15-17

Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

Concrete actions are the best expression of love we can have for the people around us, whether they are those close to us, who inspire the most beautiful feelings in us, or those who become our “neighbors” in our daily lives. In any case, it’s not enough to simply express what we feel if it’s not accompanied by gestures that bring well-being to those around us.

Behind Jesus’ question to Peter is the teacher’s desire for us to understand the true meaning of love. Let us not deceive ourselves or deceive with empty claims, but rather seek to demonstrate to others the same love with which Jesus fills us at all times, and the only way to do this is through service.

It is good to ask ourselves again and again how much love do we give and how do we show it?  How can we be faithful to what we received from Jesus? How can we fill the lives of others? How do we not stay with superficial words and practive the depth of love? No gesture of love will ever remain empty. So when asked how we love, we can always answer: As you teach us, Jesus.

Prayer: God, open our hearts to love, our hands to give, our spirits to serve. Amen.

¿Dónde mostramos el verdadero amor?

Juan 21, 15-17

Jesús le dijo: Apacienta mis ovejas.

Los hechos concretos son la mejor expresión de amor que podemos tener con las personas alrededor, ya sean aquellas cercanas, que nos arrancan los más hermosos sentimientos o aquellas que en nuestro camino cotidianos se convierten en “prójimos”. De cualquier manera, no basta con expresar lo que sentimos, si esto no viene acompañado de gestos que llenen de bienestar a quienes nos rodean.

Detrás de la pregunta de Jesús a Pedro, está el deseo del maestro de que entendamos el verdadero sentido del amor. No engañarnos y no engañar con afirmaciones vacías, sino buscar demostrar a otros el mismo amor con que Jesús nos llena en todo momento, y la única manera de hacerlo es a través del servicio.

Es bueno preguntarnos una y otra vez ¿cuánto amor damos y cómo lo mostramos? ¿Cómo ser fiel a lo que recibimos de Jesús? Y ¿Cómo llenar la vida de otros y otras? ¿Cómo no quedarnos en palabras superficiales y practicar la profundidad del amor?  Ningún gesto de amor, nunca quedará en el vacío. Así que frente a la pregunta de cómo amamos, siempre podamos responder: Como nos enseñas tú, Jesús.

Oración: Dios, abre nuestros corazones para amar, nuestras manos para dar, nuestro espíritu para servir. Amen
