Following Jesus from What I Am

John 21, 20-25

Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!”

John 21.22 (NRSV)

The Christian faith is communitarian, nevertheless at the same time each person holds a personal relation with God which must be cared for and nurtured at all times. In the same way we must contribute, serve in our communities, but at the same time we must also dedicate space for the strengthening of the ties which unite us with Jesus.

At times, we are so preoccupied with the lives of others that we neglect our own spiritual life, our growth, our Christian witness. Sometimes our life of faith is sustained by constant observations of how other sisters and brothers live their relationship with God, and we don’t focus on what we need to do ourselves. When Jesus tellls us, “Follow me,” he is calling us to follow his principles with all of our being, and that implies focusing on our own spiritual life and thus strengthened, helping and supporting others to find their own path.

Prayer: Benevolent God, help me always to find my own path to you. Amen.

Seguir a Jesús desde lo que soy

Juan 21, 20-25

Jesús le dijo: Si quiero que él quede hasta que yo venga, ¿qué a ti? Sígueme tú.

Juan 21.22

La fe cristiana es comunitaria, sin embargo, al mismo tiempo, cada persona tiene una relación personal con Dios que debe cuidar y alimentar en todo momento. De la misma manera que debemos aportar, compartir, servir en nuestras comunidades, debemos al mismo tiempo dedicar espacio para el fortalecimiento de los lazos que nos une a Jesús.

A veces, estamos tan preocupados por la vida de otros, que desatendemos nuestra propia vida espiritual, nuestro crecimiento, nuestro testimonio cristiano. En ocasiones, nuestra vida de fe, esta sustentada por las observaciones constantes a la manera en que otras hermanas y hermanos viven su relación con Dios y no nos enfocamos en lo que necesitamos hacer, desde nosotros mismos. Cuando Jesús nos dice “Sígueme” nos está llamando a seguir sus propuestas con todo nuestro ser y eso implica, enfocarnos en nuestra propia vida espiritual y así fortalecidos ayudar y apoyar a otros y otras para que encuentren su propio camino.

Oración: Dios bueno, ayúdame a encontrar mi propio camino hacia ti siempre. Amén
