God hears me

Psalm 116

I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.

Psalm 116:1-2 (NIV)

The psalmist expresses the nearness of God, and His presence is always redemptive. He begins by talking about God’s love, not only as a declaration of faith, but also as a testimony of gratitude for hearing his pleas and working favorably in his life. Recognizing that God hears our cries, even when “the bonds of death surround us,” gives us the confidence we need to remain steadfast and trusting, even in the most difficult of days. He has heard my voice, which comes as a balm at a time when the cries of the people, who are suffering and impoverished, are not heard by the princes of this world. God hears and understands my pain and my anguish as part of the downtrodden people. These first two verses provide peace in the midst of storms and a deep, intimate connection with God through prayer and dependence on Him at all times. 

Prayer: God, who is always near, may my confidence to continue, be placed in you, who is attentive to our cries. Amen.

Dios me escucha

Salmo 116

Amo a Jehová, pues ha oído mi voz y mis súplicas; porque ha inclinado a mí su oído; por tanto, le invocaré en todos mis días.

Salmo 116:1-2

El salmista expresa la cercanía de Dios, y su presencia es siempre redentora. Comienza hablando del amor de Dios, no solo como declaración de fe, sino también como un testimonio de gratitud por escuchar las súplicas y obrar favorablemente en su vida.  Reconocer que Dios está atento a nuestro clamor, aunque las “ligaduras de muerte nos rodeen” nos da la confianza necesaria para continuar en pie y confiados, aun en los días más difíciles. Ha oído mi voz, viene como bálsamo en tiempo donde el clamor del pueblo, dolido y empobrecido, no es escuchado por los príncipes de este mundo. Dios escucha y comprende mi dolor y mi angustia como parte del pueblo abatido. Estos dos primeros versículos proveen paz en medio de las tormentas y de profunda e íntima conexión con Dios a través de la oración y la dependencia de Él en todo tiempo.

Oración: Dios siempre cercano, que mi confianza para continuar esté puesta en ti que estás atento a nuestro clamor. Amén.
