FAITH STRENGTHENS US

Matthew 14: 22-36

Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14:31 (NRSV)

In this biblical passage, the disciples are terrified, believing that they saw a fantasy, but Jesus warns them and calls to them not to fear. The Peter questions him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Then Jesus told him, “Come,” and Peter walked on the water. But Peter lost courage, his faith in Jesus failed, and he began to sink. Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and began to look around him at the wind and waves, and began to doubt Jesus’ word. The same thing can happen to us: if we take our eyes off of Jesus and focus on our own problems we will doubtless sink. Nevertheless, if we hold fast to our faith in Jesus and in his promises, he will be our strength in the face of fear, our refuge and a safe boat in times of tempest. When problems arise, we can call to Jesus, and he will certainly extend his hand to us and keep us afloat. Let’s call with strength and sureness, recognizing his power and love because in times of tribulation it is he who strengthens our spirits.

Prayer: Lord, help us to strengthen our faith; be our support in the midst of the storm. Amen.

LA FE NOS FORTALECE

Mateo 14: 22-36

“Al momento Jesús extendiendo la mano asió de él, y le dijo: ¡Hombre de poca fe! ¿Por qué dudaste?

Mateo 14. 31-32

En este pasaje bíblico los discípulos estaban aterrados, creían que veían un fantasma, pero Jesús les advierte y les llama a que no temieran. Entonces Pedro lo interpela: “Señor, eres tú, manda que yo vaya a ti sobre las aguas”. Más Jesús le dijo “Ven” Y Pedro caminó sobre las aguas, pero le faltó coraje, le falló la fe en Jesús y comenzó a hundirse. Pedro quitó los ojos de Jesús y comenzó a mirar a su alrededor, al viento, a las olas y no dudó de las palabras Jesús.También puede sucedernos, si desviamos la mirada de Jesús y empezamos a mirar nuestros problemas, sin duda nos hundiremos. Sin embargo si tenemos fe en Jesús y en sus promesas, Él será nuestra fuerza ante el temor, nuestro refugio y barca segura en tiempo de tormenta. Cuando lleguen problemas podemos clamar a Jesús y con certeza extenderá su mano para que mantenernos a flote. Llamemos con fuerza, serenidad, reconozcamos su poder, su amor porque en tiempos de tribulaciones es Él quien fortalece nuestros espíritus.

Oración: Señor ayúdanos a afianzar nuestra fe, se nuestro sostén en medio de la tormenta. Amén.
