LOVE IS NOT AN OPTION

And the second is like it: you must love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Matthew 22:39 (CEB)

Jesus is the fulfillment of the promises made by God in the old covenant. All of the Scripture from Genesis to Revelation points to Jesus’ salvific work. With his incarnation, the Lord showed in an unmistakable form the image of the Father and thus it is possible to understand the history of humanity and its relationship with the Creator. All the law and the prophets depend on two commandments, to love God and to love neighbor.  A commandment is a decree and an obligation.  It is not an option, it must be fulfilled.  Love is the most sublime feeling that one can have, but it is at the same time the most difficult, because Jesus not only asks us to love our families, friends and members of our churches, but all. It is not easy to love someone who hates us, harms us or hurts us, but the merit lies when loving is hard, because this love is divine. What virtue is there in only loving those who love us? 

Prayer: You, Lord are all love–may we manifest your love in us to our neighbor. Only this way will we be able to truly be your disciples.  For Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.

AMAR NO ES UNA OPCIÓN

MATEO 22:34-40

El segundo se parece a este: ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.

Mateo 22:37-40

Jesús es el cumplimiento de las promesas realizadas por Dios en el antiguo pacto, toda la Escritura desde el Génesis hasta el Apocalipsis señalan su obra salvífica. Con su encarnación el Señor mostró de una forma inequívoca la imagen del Padre y así se puede comprender la historia de la humanidad y su relación con el Creador. Toda la ley y los profetas dependen de dos mandamientos, amar a Dios y el amor al prójimo. Un mandamiento es un decreto, obligación, no es una opción, hay que cumplirlo.  El amor es el sentimiento más sublime que se pueda poseer, pero es a la vez el más difícil, porque Jesús no solo nos pide amar a nuestras familias, amigos, miembros de nuestras iglesias, sino a todos; no es fácil amar a alguien que nos odia, lastima o daña, pero el mérito radica en amar cuando es difícil, porque ese amor es divino. ¿Qué virtud tiene amar a los que nos aman?

Oración: Tú Señor eres todo amor, que podamos manifestar tu amor en nosotros a nuestro prójimo. Solo así podemos ser verdaderamente tus discípulos. Por Jesucristo nuestro Señor y Salvador. Amén.
