Listen to Jesus

John 10:1-30

My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me.

This text is a continuation of the previous reflection: if being heard is important, then listening provides guidance, comfort and hope at all times. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and his language here emphasizes this, listening to his voice that guides us to green pastures and still waters.

Dependence on Jesus permeates the life of the Christian. We listen to Him as our guide, and He hears us along the way. Here Jesus leaves us with three messages that can make a difference in our lives. My sheep listen to me, and I know them, and they follow me. Listening comes first: leaving space in our prayers for internal silence where we bring nothing but our attentive ears to hear his voice. Knowing comes second: in biblical language, knowing brings fruitful intimacy, which is nothing other than love. Jesus speaks to us because he loves us. Following is the third thing: when we recognize that we are loved, the path becomes easier. We learn to walk with Jesus, to love like Jesus, and to speak like Jesus from a place of empathy, reconciliation, and hope.

Prayer: Lord, teach us to listen to your voice that shows us the way. Amen.

Oír a Jesús

Este texto es continuidad de la reflexión anterior: si ser escuchado es importante, escuchar provee en todo tiempo de orientación, consuelo, esperanza. Jesús es el buen Pastor, su lenguaje aquí tiene ese énfasis, escuchar su voz que guía por verdes pastos y aguas de reposo.

La dependencia de Jesús transversaliza la vida del cristiano, le oímos a Él como guía y Él nos oye en el camino. Aquí Jesús nos deja tres mensajes que pueden marcar la diferencia en nuestra vida. Mis ovejas oyen mi voz, y yo las conozco, y me siguen. Escuchar viene a ser lo primero, dejar espacio en nuestra oración para el silencio interior donde no traemos más que nuestros oídos atentos a escuchar su voz. Conocer es lo segundo: en el lenguaje bíblico conocer trae intimidad fecunda que no es otra cosa que amor. Jesús nos habla porque nos ama. Seguir es lo tercero, cuando nos reconocemos amados el camino es más llevadero y aprendemos a caminar con Jesús, amar como Jesús, hablar como Jesús desde la empatía, la reconciliación y la esperanza.   

Oración: Señor enséñanos a escuchar tu voz que nos muestra el camino. Amén.
