The Anointed One and the Freedom of the Gospel

Luke 4:16-30

to let the oppressed go free,  to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

Christ is the fulfillment of the messianic promise, the center of revelation, and the channel of God’s sovereign grace.

The reaction of those present is first one of admiration and then of rejection; in this way, the hardness of the human heart is revealed before divine grace, which does not conform to its expectations. Jesus, to cite the examples of Elijah and Elisha, shows that God’s salvation is limited by neither ethnic nor religious boundaries, but is extended sovereignly. This message of freedom and grace is scandalous for those who trust their own merits or privileges.

However, his mission does not stop at: “passing through the midst of them, he went on” (v.30), showing his sovereign freedom and the unstoppable advance of the Kingdom.

The text invites the Church to proclaim the Gospel with courage. It reminds us of the freedom that Christ grants, and that the Church’s mission is to announce that good news to all, especially the marginalized and the excluded.

Prayer: Lord, free us from hardness of heart and enable us to proclaim your Gospel with fidelity and courage, trusting in your power and not our own strength. Amen.

El Ungido y la Libertad del Evangelio.

Lucas 4, 16-30

A poner en libertad a los oprimidos; A predicar el año agradable del Señor.

Lucas 4.19

Cristo es el cumplimiento de la promesa mesiánica, el centro de la revelación y el canal de la gracia soberana de Dios.

La reacción de los presentes, primero es de admiración y luego de rechazo, así se revela la dureza del corazón humano ante la gracia divina que no se ajusta a sus expectativas. Jesús, al citar ejemplos de Elías y Eliseo, muestra que la salvación de Dios no está limitada por fronteras étnicas ni religiosas, sino que se extiende soberanamente. Este mensaje de libertad y gracia es escandaloso para quienes confían en sus propios méritos o privilegios.

Sin embargo, su misión no se detiene: “pasando por en medio de ellos, se fue” (v.30), mostrando su soberana libertad y el avance imparable del Reino.

El texto nos invita a la iglesia a proclamar el Evangelio con valentía. Nos recuerda la libertad que Cristo otorga, y que la misión de la iglesia es anunciar esa buena nueva a todos, especialmente a los marginados y excluidos.

Oración: Señor, líbranos de la dureza de corazón y capacítanos para proclamar tu Evangelio con fidelidad y valentía, confiando en tu poder y no en nuestras fuerzas. Amén.
