The mission and Sovereign Grace

Luke 5:1-11

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”

 Luke 5:4 (NRSV)

This story teaches us several truths for our lives. First, obedience to Jesus’ word, even when our circumstances tell us otherwise, opens the door to unexpected blessings. Peter did not understand  how he could catch fish after a fruitless night, but he trusted Jesus’ words.

Finally, Jesus called Simon and his companions to a new mission: being fishers for people, working for humanity. This call involves leaving behind what is familiar and following Jesus with faith and total commitment, trusting that He will guide every step.

Today, like Simon, we may feel ourselves tired or discouraged by “failures.” But Jesus invites us to trust in his word and to obey because He can transform our circumstances and use us for his eternal purpose.

May this passage inspire us to listen to Jesus’ voice, to obey with faith, and respond to his call with courage, leaving everything behind to follow him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your word that guides and strengthens us. Help me to trust in you in the midst of my doubts and fatigue. Amen.

La misión y la gracia soberana

Lucas 5:1-11

Cuando terminó de hablar, dijo a Simón: Boga mar adentro, y echad vuestras redes para pescar.

Lucas 5.4

Esta historia nos enseña varias verdades para nuestra vida. Primero, la obediencia a la palabra de Jesús, incluso cuando nuestras circunstancias nos dicen lo contrario, abre la puerta a bendiciones inesperadas. Pedro no entendía cómo podría haber peces después de una noche infructuosa, pero confió en la palabra de Jesús.

Finalmente, Jesús llama a Simón y a sus compañeros a una nueva misión: ser pescadores de personas, trabajar por la humanidad. Esta llamada implica dejar atrás lo conocido y seguir a Jesús con fe y entrega total, confiando en que Él guiará cada paso.

Hoy, como Simón, podemos sentirnos cansados o desanimados por los "fracasos". Pero Jesús nos invita a confiar en su palabra y a obedecer, porque Él puede transformar nuestras circunstancias y usarnos para su propósito eterno.

Que este pasaje nos inspire a escuchar la voz de Jesús, a obedecer con fe y a responder a su llamado con valentía, dejando todo para seguirle.

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias por tu palabra que nos guía y fortalece. Ayúdame a confiar en ti en medio de mis dudas y cansancios. Amén.
