The Compassionate Service of Christ

Luke 4:38-44

But he said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.”

From the synagogue, Jesus goes to the house of Simon and heals his mother-in-law who gets up and serves them. As evening falls, many sick people are brought to Him, and Jesus heals them showing compassion and power. However, as the crowd searched for him, Jesus declared that he must go to other cities.

This text reveals the pastoral heart of Christ: his power is coupled with compassion, and his ministry is not limited to one group, but is universal in scope.

Christian service, then, must flow from communion with Christ and be guided by Jesus’ purpose, not by the pressure of human, personal, or external demands. The healing and freedom that Jesus brings are symbols of the Kingdom. The Church is called to serve with compassion, preaching his Word, trusting that God’s Spirit is what works transformation.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for Christ’s example of compassion and faithfulness to your purpose. Help us to serve others with love, but also to remain faithful to the mission of proclaiming your Gospel in every place. Amen.

El Servicio Compasivo de Cristo

Lucas 4, 38-44

Pero él les dijo: Es necesario que también a otras ciudades anuncie el evangelio del reino de Dios; porque para esto he sido enviado.

Tras la sinagoga, Jesús va a la casa de Simón y sana a su suegra, quien se levanta y les sirve. Al atardecer, muchos enfermos son llevados a Él, y Jesús los sana, mostrando compasión y poder. Sin embargo, al buscarle la multitud, Jesús declara que debe ir a otras ciudades a predicar.

Este texto revela el corazón pastoral de Cristo: su poder va unido a la compasión, y su ministerio no se limita a un grupo, sino que es universal en alcance.

El servicio cristiano, entonces, debe emanar de una comunión con Cristo y estar guiado por a propuesta de Jesús, no por la presión de las demandas humanas, personales, externas. La sanidad y la liberación que Jesús trae son señales del Reino. La iglesia está llamada a servir con compasión, predicando su Palabra, confiando en que el Espíritu de Dios es quien obra la transformación.

Oración: Padre celestial, gracias por el ejemplo de Cristo, de compasión y fidelidad a tu propósito. Ayúdanos a servir a otros con amor, pero también a mantenernos fieles a la misión de proclamar tu Evangelio en todo lugar. Amén.
