Let us discover His identity

Luke 9:7-9

But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him.

Luke 99 (NIV)

Herod appears confused and curious about the identity of Jesus. Herod, who had John beheaded, wonders who this Jesus really is and wants to see him for himself.

This passage invites us to reflect on the true identity of Christ and how there are people, often those in power, who may be confused as to God’s revelation in Jesus. Herod represents those who, even though they hear about Christ, do not recognize his true nature nor do they seek an encounter with him.

This question also challenges us to examine our own faith: Do we recognize Jesus as the Son of God? Herod’s curiosity is superficial; it does not carry any kind of real commitment. In contrast, God’s sovereign grace calls us to a living, obedient and committed faith.

Prayer: Dear God, may our hearts always seek you and become more like Jesus. Amen.

Descubramos su identidad.

Lucas 9,7-9

Y dijo Herodes: A Juan yo le hice decapitar; ¿quién, pues, es este, de quien oigo tales cosas? Y procuraba verle.

Lucas 9.9

Herodes se muestra confundido y curioso sobre la identidad de Jesús. Herodes, que había mandado decapitar a Juan, se pregunta quién es realmente este Jesús y desea verlo por sí mismo.

Este pasaje nos invita a reflexionar sobre la verdadera identidad de Cristo y cómo hay personas, muchas veces de poder que pueden estar confundidos o indiferentes ante la revelación de Dios en Jesús. Herodes representa a aquellos que, aunque escuchan acerca de Cristo, no reconocen su verdadera naturaleza ni se acercan a un encuentro con ÉL.

Esta duda también nos desafía a examinar nuestra propia fe: ¿Reconocemos a Jesús como el Hijo de Dios? La curiosidad de Herodes es superficial; no lleva a un compromiso real. En contraste, la gracia soberana de Dios nos llama a una fe viva, obediente y comprometida.
