Luke 14: 25-33

So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions.

Jesus uses two parables to illustrate the seriousness of this decision: the builder who figures the cost before erecting a tower and the king who weighs his forces before going to war. In the same way we must consider and keep in mind the cost of following Christ, of our commitment. The path forward is neither easy nor superficial.

In the context of the first century, taking up a cross was the symbol of humiliation and martyrdom. Although we don’t face physical persecution, we nevertheless must confront the daily battle against sin, hatred, the temptation and pressure of the world to abandon our faith.

The call is clear: we cannot follow Jesus halfway. May this passage challenge us to evaluate our commitment and renew our commitment to follow Jesus with all of our heart without looking back or clinging to what may separate us from Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to know the cost of following you and give me the strength to renounce all that would impair my walk with you. May my life be a witness to total commitment and total love for You. Teach me to carry my cross daily and to follow you with Strength and faith. In Your name, Amen.

Lucas 14. 25-33

Así, pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncia a todo lo que posee, no puede ser mi discípulo.

Jesús utiliza dos parábolas para ilustrar la seriedad de esta decisión: el constructor que calcula el costo antes de edificar una torre y el rey que evalúa sus fuerzas antes de ir a la guerra. De igual manera, debemos considerar, tener presente el costo de seguir a Cristo, de nuestro compromiso. No es un camino fácil ni superficial.

En el contexto del primer siglo, llevar la cruz era símbolo de humillación y martirio. Hoy, aunque no todos enfrentamos persecución física, sí enfrentamos la batalla diaria contra el pecado, el odio, la tentación y la presión del mundo para abandonar nuestra fe.

El llamado es claro: no podemos seguir a Jesús a medias. Que este pasaje nos desafíe a evaluar nuestra entrega y a renovar nuestro compromiso de seguir a Jesús con todo nuestro corazón, sin mirar atrás ni aferrarnos a lo que nos pueda separar de Él.

Oración: Señor Jesús, ayúdame a entender el costo de seguirte y dame la fuerza para renunciar a todo lo que me impida caminar contigo. Que mi vida sea un testimonio de entrega total y amor por Ti. Enséñame a tomar mi cruz cada día y a seguirte con valentía y fe. En Tu nombre, amén.
